Relaxing Seaside Nature Escape

There is something incredibly unique about feeling like you're at a jungle retreat yet being still so close to town and Byron Bay's beaches. You'd never guess this place is tucked away in a quiet suburban street. The garden was exquisite and meticulously tended, providing a tranquil oasis to rest and ground. The morning sun casts a warm glow through the lounge room (perfect for curling up with a book!) and moves over the pool in the afternoon, where we enjoyed a cheeky cocktail or two in the heat of the day.

The house was so comfortable we didn't want to leave, but it was so quick and easy to pop in and out to explore, with a walking track to the Tea Tree lake close by the house and great cafes and shops within 5 mins drive. We loved our visit to the Cape Byron Distillery and learning more about the impressive reforestation projects that have been going on in the region and sampling the local gin and whiskey, eagerly coming home to light a fire and play cards as night fell.

An absolute highlight was relaxing in the luxurious outdoor hot tub (low-chemical and magnesium!), listening to the birds at sunset and the distant sound of the ocean at night. We absolutely loved staying in this beautiful home and can't wait to come back.

This easy walking track is quickly accessible from the house and took us through native bush lands to where the Tea Tree lake meets the ocean. We watched whales breaching whilst a storm rolled in over the horizon.

This gorgeous cafe was the first establishment in Byron to ban single-use plastic and has a cosy, local vibe with great quality produce and friendly staff. We loved the vegetarian koftas and the adaptogenic cacao!

A quick stop to take in the view overlooking Byron, with Julian Rocks out in the distance and the lush surrounding greenery. There's a helpful map here with great information about the region and the scenic routes you can take.

Our guided tour of the Cape Byron Distillery was such a great way to spend the afternoon. Nestled in a lush section of restored rainforest, the family-owned distillery is 100% zero-waste and entirely powered by renewable energy, with all botanicals used in their brews either grown on the farm or sourced locally. Our mind was blown seeing how small native bees are, and we loved sipping our gin and tonics whilst overlooking the lush tree canopy.
