A Relaxing Hinterland Escape

From the moment we drove across the rustic wooden bridge and onto the property, we felt all the stresses of the world just melt away. The tiny home looked so cute, bordered with wildflowers and macadamia trees on one side and a spacious clearing on the other - topped off with the river flowing down below.

Thoughtful touches and flower arrangements awaited us inside, the whole space clearly designed for cosy comfort and an immersive connection to nature. We quickly fell in love with the property and the stunning grounds, there was so much to enjoy right on our doorstep, and we wanted to maximise our time there. So we drove out to enjoy lunch at Shelter in Lennox Head, enjoying scrumptious food and wine accompanied with beautiful ocean views. Then we stopped in Newrybar for gelato at Benilato, before buying provisions to settle back into our tiny home - with the intention of not leaving the property again!

The rest of our stay was spent picnicking in the macadamia trees and eating freshly cracked nuts, swimming and relaxing in the incredible river just a short walk downhill from the house, and of course, soaking in the outdoor bathtub with a wine as the sun went down. We spent hours that night star gazing - there were so many shooting stars! Falling asleep that night to the sound of the river flowing below, crickets and frogs was pure heaven.

Colleen the divine host, also kindly showed us her impressive veggie garden, gifting us fresh eggs from the chooks and herbs from the garden that went into our breakfast cook-up. Lounging in the deck chairs at sunset after a bath whilst listening to the native birds, clad in bathrobes provided by our host, we almost felt like we'd been at a spa all day. We ate our final dinner by the crackling fireplace and felt utterly rejuvenated.

The property has a beautiful river flowing through it just a short walk away, with plenty of rocks to lay on and enough depth to swim in. So refreshing on a hot day.

Benilato has some of the best gelato we've had in Australia! Don't miss this if you are driving through Newrybar.

If you stay here, make sure you ask Colleen to show you her veggie garden. We loved visiting the chooks and sampling her organic produce.
