Tranquil Talulah

This coastal escape from the city was just what we needed, and Tiny Talulah did not disappoint. After a smooth drive from Melbourne, we were greeted with sea fog covered town of Apollo Bay. We took this as a sign to settle in for the night, taking advantage of the cooking equipment provided at the tiny house - like the BBQ, pots, pans, spices, etc. We enjoyed a cosy first night in and a very comfortable sleep with a plush bed, inviting living space, and a spacious bathroom.

On Saturday, we woke up to the view of three of the alpacas grazing, while we enjoyed our morning coffee. After breakfast, we headed out to meet with Amy and Nigel, the owners of Tiny Talulah, and Apollo Bay Tiny Stays, to get a tour of their property. The tour and learning about their projects, and future goals, were one of our favourite parts of our stay. On the property you’ll find several highland cows, including a 10-week-old and 3-day-old cow, chickens, sheep, lamb, dogs, and honey bees.

After spending some time on the farm, we headed right into Apollo Bay Town Centre, which is conveniently located about a minutes drive from the farm stay. The town centre features a variety of restaurants and boutiques and is right across the road from the ocean. We couldn’t resist stopping at Apollo Bay Bakery for the famous Scallop Pies and some coffee.

After that, we headed up to the Californian Redwood Forest, about a 30-40 minute drive from town and well worth the trip. There we spent time soaking in the incredible views, walking on the trails, and visiting some nearby waterfalls. We then made our way back to Mariner’s Lookout which is a must for visiting the area that overlooks all of Apollo Bay before heading down to Apollo Bay Fisherman’s Co-op for a seafood platter.

After a full day of exploring, we were looking forward to heading back to the farm just in time for the 5:30 pm feeding of the highland cows, and enjoying another evening in the tiny home with a woodfire and home-cooked meal. Overall this makes it a well-needed, comfortable retreat away.

Explore the Redwood Forest with over 1500 larger-than-life red-barked trees towering in the sky. The trees are spectacular alone but also surrounded by some of the best hiking trails and waterfalls in the area.
