Camp Otway Hideaway
Adventure in Hordern Vale, Great Ocean Road, VIC, AU
Completely off grid in the National Otway Forrest. The camp had everything you needed plus more! Outdoor bath under the stars, camp fire and even a camp fire pizza oven! Gas cookers, pots, pans, echo toilet... AND a hot running water shower space! All the camping luxury’s of life!
The place felt calm. Still. Just like the rest of the day. King parrots flying over head and the sound of blue rens singing their song as they skip from branch to branch. I made pizza dough from the recipe found in the welcome book, with all the ingredients supplied by the hosts. As the dough rested, so did I, with an afternoon nap in the hammock.
The vintage caravan was comfortable with the fluffiest of pillows and cosy blankets. The fridge, lights and even AC all ran off a solar battery system which came with super easy instructions to follow along.
As night arrived, I lit the camp fire and pizza oven. Topped my pizzas with simple ingredients and slowly guided them in to bake! As the stars began to appear, so did the fairy lights, lighting up the campsite with a warm sunset colours. I sat by the fire with a slice of pizza in each hand. And here I was again. Calm. Just as the camp felt.
The next morning, I wondered the property in search for the local Koalas, and found one livin’ his best life amoung the gum trees. Along the way, I discovered the property’s garden full of delicious eatables including strawberries! I picked a handful and wondered back to camp.
You could see the camp was fitted with all kinds of games like darts, cards and that ball on the rope with two bats that swing back and forth from each other. You could find yourself lost in the games or lost in your own day dreams. The choice was yours and the judgement wasn’t there whatever way you felt like swinging.
It was that kind of place - a real Otway Hideaway....
