Queens of the Castle
Adventure in Castlemaine, Goldfields, VIC, AU
My sister Flossy and I arrived just as the sun was setting, and boy did we feel like we hit the ultimate jacpot! The Queens of Castle. The Queens in Castlemaine. Robes, fresh sourdough, and all the sitting and reading material anyone could ever ask for!
This stylish two storey abode was our home for the next two nights. The attention to detail was beyond, and it took a little while for our reality to set in. The light dancing through the arch windows was a sight to see. We sat still and watched the sun go down before we laid our heads on the comfy beds.
We jumped right out of bed and straight into a picnic at the cascades swimming hole. With all my years of travel and waterhole expertise, this spot was one of the best I had ever seen! We had the entire place to ourselves! We swam and played here all day. We laid on the giant boulders like lizards catching some warmth from the sun.
We went grabbed an early tea at the Red Hill Hotel with sun kissed skin and messy hair. We began with dessert first and shared a whole lotta entrees between us. I mean, what girl doesn’t love options, especially when it comes to food. Everything tasted as good as it sounded on the menu especially after swimming all day.
We went home to our castle, poured ourselves a glass of wine and freshened up. Even though I had been in water all day, the shower was difficult to leave alone. The body wash smelt delicious, and the shower pressure was more than just right. If I didn’t have a glass of wine waiting for me, I may have never have gotten out.
We wondered the surrounding gardens and sat outside to watch the sun once again leave us for the day. It wasn’t too long after that we started to fade into the night and leave the epic day to memories we made.

Things We Did
- Swim
- River
- Walk
We set up picnic camp here and spent the day. One of the best swimming spots I have ever come across! Beautiful weather too. The rocks in the water are slippery as but the water is clear enough for you to find an easy access to get in and out of. Loved the cascades running down my back! We explored the area, swam, ate and laid on the giant boulders. Easy road for any car to access and the walk down to the water is super close.
Another awesome river swimming spot with loads of picnic spots. Swing rope and jump tree for those kinda adventurers! Plenty of parking, shade and BBQs. Great spot to spend the day and check out the mineral springs! Toilets are nearby too.
The garden space at the property was a lovely spot to sit, explore and enjoy the sunset. Highly recommend a glass of wine in hand too friends if that's how you wanna roll.
