Barn Bliss: A Weekend in Heaven
Adventure in Curraweela, Country NSW, NSW, AU
The incredible sunset that lit up the sky as we left Sydney for the Southern Tablelands sure set the scene for the unforgettable weekend ahead. We instantly fell in love with the charm and luxury of The Abercrombie Barn. Immediately feeling at home, we settled in with a bowl of popcorn for a movie night.
At first light, we were up and at the windows watching deer and kangaroos nibbling the grass in front of a magical pink sky. Seeing the panoramic vistas over the Abercrombie River Valley and the Great Dividing Range in daylight took our breath away. The valleys surrounding the ridge were filled with low-lying clouds - we were in our own little patch of paradise!
We headed out late morning for a drive through Taralga - a quaint town with almost 200 years of history. We were excited to see the historic center was open, so we stopped and were beyond impressed with our tour guide, what we learned, and the original buildings we got to see. We heard the Grand Ettie Cafe was the best place for lunch, so we headed there next and it exceeded all expectations! Think hand-written menus and homemade pastries- so good that we were back within 24hrs!
Once back at The Barn, we explored the property and ended up in the games room. It was a hard choice with ping pong, giant chess, air hockey, darts, and foosball, but we chose to battle it out in a game of pool. We ended the day with an outdoor hot tub - the golden views across the valleys took our breath away and we sank deep into relaxation as the sky changed colours as the sun went down. Once we had soaked until our fingers were prunes, we lit the fire and pulled out the marshmallows that our lovely hosts had ready for us with fire forks.
Everything comfort you could want is at the Abercrombie Barn; aircon, an open fireplace, electric blankets, super comfy beds, quality linen, an incredible kitchen with everything you need, and all of the entertainment bells and whistles. We were in heaven. The property felt like our very own wildlife sanctuary, we wanted to stay for a week so that we could explore properly, and experience the bush walks you can do right from the back door. This was by far one of the best weekends away we’ve had, and we were making plans for a trip back before we even left. Thank you so much for a perfect weekend!
