Avion Retreat - Mountain Escape
Adventure in Pumpenbil, North Coast, NSW, AU
Our stay at Avion Retreat was truly special, offering a chance to unwind and connect with nature. The coastal drive to get there was scenic, passing through picturesque farmlands and dense rainforests. Upon arrival, Shonnea warmly welcomed us, sharing fascinating insights about the area, including its volcanic origins.
We hopped into our golf buggy and followed the short, winding scenic route to our glasshouse perched on top a hill. The moment we arrived, we were taken back by the breathtaking views stretching across the valley towards the surrounding mountains.
On our first evening, we watched the sunset over the mountains, followed by some laid-back outdoor games as dusk settled in. The nightly ritual and perhaps the most unforgettable experience was indulging in the outdoor bathtub as we watched the sunset paint the sky in hues of orange and pink, giving way to a blanket of stars. The tranquility of the surroundings coupled with the breathtaking views made for a relaxing evening that we will cherish forever.
Mornings started with a peaceful cup of coffee on the deck, accompanied by a gourmet breakfast platter featuring an array of locally sourced produce. Every bite was bursting with flavour, but it was the crumpets that stole the show. Soft, fluffy, and served with just the right amount of sweetness, they were simply the best we've ever tasted.
Our day's adventures took us on a journey through the rainforest to Byrrill Creek, where we were greeted by the delicate dance of blue butterflies and the towering presence of ancient buttress trees.
Exploring the quaint township of Tyalgum, with its charming cafes and eclectic thrift stores, provided a delightful afternoon of discovery. We concluded our day sitting by a peaceful waterfall near Chillingham.
The accommodation at Avion Retreat was luxurious yet cozy, with every detail thoughtfully curated for the comfort of guests. From the plush bedding to the stylish decor, it was evident that no expense was spared in creating an atmosphere of relaxation and indulgence. Our stay at Avion Retreat exceeded all expectations. The stunning mountain views, delectable breakfast offerings, and warm hospitality of Shonnea and Jason made it a truly unforgettable getaway. We cannot recommend this hidden gem highly enough and look forward to returning in the near future....

Things We Did
- Walk
- Town
- Waterfall
This short walk starts at Cutters Camp campgrounds picnic area and passes through sub-tropical rainforest with an impressive stand of giant, ancient fig trees, all the way down to the peaceful and scenic Byrrill Creek.
Along the way, you'll walk through three very different forest types, with a real change between each one. As you pass under the rainforest with its large fig trees, rainforest canopy, bangalow palms, and eucalypts, listen to the water gently trickling in the creek and the sounds of the birds and insects that make their home here....
