Sunsets amongst the gumtrees
Adventure in Myocum, North Coast, NSW, AU
Sometimes you just need a little staycay, and the Sunset Cottage offers the perfect spot for it! So I packed the car, dogs in tow, and headed into the hinterland. The long pine tree-lined driveway into the Sunset Cottage was beautiful and instantly gave me all the Autumn feels.
A quick little explore of the the well-appointed cottage, whilst the dogs sniffed around, and I couldn't resist the amazing bathtub - it was calling my name. The deep tub looks straight out at the most beautiful gumtree in one direction, and then out to the sunset in the other. I sank into the bubbles, and enjoyed the views until my fingers were pruned. After cooking up a yummy dinner that night, I tucked down into the super comfortable bed and watched a movie - I was well and truly in relaxation mode.
The next morning, I made myself a coffee with extra froth and sat on the deck enjoying the views. The water from the dam next door sparkled through the trees and birds sang around me everywhere. It was a stunning day, and I couldn't wait to get amongst it with the dogs.
We did one of our favourite walks first which starts at the Pat Morton lookout in Lennox Head, and follows the coastline down to Flat Rock. You can even go further to Ballina if you have the leg power! The walk is truly breathtaking with expansive views down the coastline and multiple beaches to stop at for swims along the way.
After our walk, a cool-off swim at the beautiful Marom Falls was needed. Waterfall jumps into a deep lagoon, flat rocks for bathing in the sun, and a running river, make this one of my favourite swimming holes in the area. Pure heaven. The air turned cool that afternoon, and I realised I hadn't packed enough warm clothes, so I stopped into an epic op shop called Global Ripple on the way home and picked up a few cosy items.
Once we were back at the cottage, I decided to get the fire pit going. So I took the dogs for a wander around the property to collect pinecones, kindling, and wood. Then we snuggled in back at the cottage by the fire and watched another gorgeous sunset.
This is such a great little hinterland haven, perfect for a solo stay, a romantic getaway, or a small family. Being just 8min into Mullumbimby and 12min into Byron center, you really are in the most perfect spot to set off and explore the whole region. Cannot recommend enough.

Easy to get to and stunning once you're there. Take the jump off the falls for a bit of an adrenalin rush!
The best coastal walk in the region, take the dogs, pack a picnic and your swimmers. You can take a full day to enjoy each beach and explore properly. Great halfway stop for lunch is the Belle General cafe.
This op shop is next level. Packed with so much funky gear, I always walk out with a handful of new threads for next to nothing! The industrial estate in Byron is filled with hidden shopping treasures, worth spending an afternoon exploring.

Seven Mile Beach is one of the few places that you can drive on the beach here. The access is from Lennox Head, you just need to grab a permit from the local servo.
Take a wander around the property to enjoy the beautiful old trees and collect some pinecones for your fire, they make the best kindling around!
