Tranquil Off-Grid Hideaway
Adventure in Costerfield, Goldfields, VIC, AU
Arriving among the yellow box and Australian outback this place permeated tranquility. The off-grid canvas abode had that awesome safari vibes from the outside feel about it but by heck did it ooze deluxe comfort on the inside! A full wood fire, large couch, 2 sleeping areas, flushing toilet, and running hot water - all powered by the energy created by the sun! I spent the next halfa getting to know the space and how this canopy shelter rolled. The kitchen had everything I could need including a coffee machine and a welcome treat of almond short breads from the hosts. A BBQ and outdoor sitting area on the front deck overlooking the entire property.
I noticed the walking track signs as I drove in, so I decided to head bush and follow my heart to see what I could find. Loads of birds, kangaroos, and the wildflowers had begun to appear as well as the wattle. I collected some cool rocks, gave thanks to some trees, and found myself a marshmallow stick for the outdoor fire I planned to light up the night skies with.
And that I did. I grabbed the telescope from the games room and watched the stars twinkle that night and so did my eyes. It was so dark and still - I felt at peace. I noticed it had been a while since I had been this still. This bush stayaway was exactly what I needed. I got lost in my mind of wonders that night and everything felt possible.
I woke to soft raindrops landing on the canvas and the smell of eucalyptus leaves. I took 3 deep breaths feeling each one as I thanked my lucky stars for such a treat as this. I snuggled into my blankets for a little while longer. I mean, what’s the rush right? I emerged from comfort bed land to stoke the fire and then jumped right into a hot rainwater shower.
The sun came out to play and I was ready to meet the pool down the hill. It was a challenge given it was winter although I was mighty impressed with my cold plunge attempt even if it was for 30 seconds! Ha! I lay on the rocks like a lizard in the sun listening to the birds sing their song. The tranquility was all around me.
I wandered back to my hideaway and read some of my book with a cheeky glass of red followed by a cheeky arvo nap. The day didn’t seem like much although it was exactly what I needed. The simplicity of the day, surrounded by nature and it flew quicker than Peter Pan. I prepped the outdoor fire once again that night as I roasted some marshmallows.
The night was still, and again I found myself to be still too. I made a promise to myself to find nature again sooner rather than leaving it to later. I said my goodnight to the moon as I drifted off to dreamland in my hideaway. It was cold out although the fire inside kept me warm to the point I opened a window cos I was roasting a bit like my marshmallows!
The morning fog arrived just as did the time for me to leave. I left the cosy hideaway feeling calm and grounded. What a sweet pocket of paradise amongst the Australian bush this was - and I will return as promised, sooner rather than later.

Things We Did
- Swim
- Starry sky
- Walk
- Gear
It was winter during my visit, so it was. a 30 seconds cold plunge for me and I was happy with my efforts to be in for that long! ha! This space would be deluxe during the warmer months and I do plan to come back and visit. A short walk down the hill from your hideaway stay.
A dark starry night and cosy camp fire makes the best star gazing time! A telescope can be found in the games room as well as blankets.
Several walking tracks throughout the property, all signed. Plenty of wild life and birds getting about. The wild flowers and yellow wattle was just starting to bloom while I was there. Be spectacular in a months time!
On the property there's a games room with a table tennis and other games. I didn't get into it myself although I could see game lovers vibing this space.
