Submerged in the Otways

My friend Caz and I had already enjoyed four wonderful nights in the Otways, and our adventures were far from over.

We started our morning chasing waterfalls and exploring the Otway National Park. I swear, we spotted 20 koalas in just five minutes! We made our way to ‘The Perch,’ a charming spot about 20 minutes from Triplet Falls, where we stopped for a late lunch. I had been here before, but I was excited to share it with Caz, especially since they update the menu frequently. We marveled at the king parrots feasting at the feeders—so stunning, just like my friend Caz.

Now, let’s talk about the highlights. The popcorn calamari and spiced mulled wine were hands down the best things I tasted that week! It was truly ‘finger-lickin’ good!’ We left feeling completely satisfied.

We then drove through the national park toward Hordern Vale, where our cozy cottage awaited us in the forest. We got busy preparing the indoor and outdoor fires while enjoying a glass of wine. I planned to make baked potatoes for dinner while Caz enjoyed a spa bath. The night was incredibly still, and so were we—it didn’t take long for us to unwind.

We spent the entire morning in our cozy retreat, reading in bed, sipping tea, and spotting koalas from our windows. It was so nourishing for our souls. We lost track of time in our peaceful haven, and I have little else to add about that day. We were simply being, not doing. I did indulge in a cheeky spa while watching koalas outside the window, while Caz savored her book and seven cups of herbal tea. Now that’s what it means to just be.

The beds were snug, and we loved the weight of the doonas—just the right amount of comfort! We hugged some trees and waved goodbye to the koalas as we left the cozy cottage. Feeling revitalized from our day of relaxation, we took the scenic route along the Great Ocean Road and found ourselves at Blanket Bay. The ocean was wild and fierce, much like us!

We explored the rock pools, patted some stones, and walked barefoot along the beach to check out the camping grounds. Standing hand in hand, we faced the ocean and took three deep breaths together—one, two, three. Two joyful hearts living their best lives. What a wonderful time to be alive!

Blanket Bay was secluded with awesome rock pools! Spent hours here checking them out. Camp grounds nearby, which looks like a top spot and public toilets. Day parking is available and easy access to the beach.
