Peaceful Escape to Clunes

Perfectly positioned between Daylesford and Ballarat, this little gem gave us the best of both worlds. We arrived ready for a change of pace, and Sonder House delivered from the moment we stepped through the door.

Our days started slow—lazy breakfasts around the kitchen table, followed by coffee on the deck with nothing but birdsong and fresh air for company. A short ten-minute walk took us into the heart of Clunes, where the heritage buildings felt straight out of an old western film. We wandered through charming bookstores and antique shops, happily losing track of time.

One golden afternoon led us to Creswick National Park. We strolled the lake loop, surrounded by tall pines and shimmering reflections on the water—it was the kind of peaceful, grounding walk that made the whole day feel complete.

Evenings were spent around the fire, toasting marshmallows and swapping stories, followed by a turn at the telescope as we searched the skies for planets and constellations. And of course, no night was complete without a long soak in the bubble bath.

Sonder House was the perfect family escape. Peaceful and beautifully located, it offered a calm space to breathe, reconnect, and just be. With so many places to explore nearby, it felt like the best kind of balance—quiet, connected, and full of possibility.

An old world town with a gold rush history. The buildings are still stuck in time and there are plenty of book stores and antiques to wander through.

This was such an unexpected, beautiful walk. An easy 3km through tall pines trees and autumn leaves with a gorgeous lake that follows you around, such a nice way to end the day.

Once the sun went down and stars came out we had a go with the telescope and searched for planets and constellations. Popping back to the fire to keep warm.
