Moments of Calm at Lakeside Barn
Adventure in Bingie, South Coast, NSW, AU
Driving into Somnium Barn at Bingie, we were immediately surrounded by wildlife - kangaroos grazing, an echidna shuffling past and an eagle circling overhead. Entering the main gates of the grassy peninsula, a two-story architecturally striking barn came into view, overlooking the Coila Lake and ocean beyond. Stepping out of the car we quickly realised that we could truly relax here. We were far away from anything, but conveniently close to everything.
The afternoon was all about taking it slow: a cheeseboard and wine on the balcony soaking in the panoramic view, before settling in for a cosy movie on the big projector.
The next day was the ultimate combination of adventure and relaxation. Waking up with the only noise being the birds chirping, walking outside to a field of kangaroos chomping on grass just meters away. We took advantage of the Barns two pushbikes, cycling around the property, before heading out on a short 15 minute drive around the lake which brought us to Tuross Head. We visited One Tree Point Lookout and enjoyed lunch by the water at Tuross Boatshed. On the drive back we took a spontaneous turn into the nearby National Park and spent the afternoon rock climbing at Mullimburra Point.
Our last day began with a stroll down to the properties private beach where we collected the complimentary kayaks for a paddle on the lake, then reluctantly packed our things and headed to Bodalla Dairy Shed for a cheeky ice cream and a calming walk through the lush canopy of Box Cutting Rainforest before our drive home.
We left feeling completely recharged and rejuvenated after an unforgettable weekend escape. There's nothing quite like taking a moment to pause, take a deep breath and reconnect with nature – and Somnium Barn is the perfect spot for just that!

If you're a lover of natural masterpieces, Cathedral Rocks is a must! Located at Mullimburra Point in Eurobodalla National Park, this hidden gem is well worth the drive. Whether you like to take in the view of this towering pinnacle from a far, or channel your inner mountain goat and go for a climb, its a beautiful sight from any angle.
This scenic lookout has panoramic coastal views, which make it a prime location for whale watching between May-November and an epic picnic spot all year round.
Grab a paddle and explore Coila Lake by kayak. Watch the kangaroo & wallabies hop past on the bank, and listen to the local birds sing, all while enjoying a peaceful paddle. Mornings are often your best chance to have glass like water.
A perfect spot to grab a bite to eat for lunch or enjoy a peaceful coffee by the lake. Watch the birds dive for fish and if you're lucky you can meet some friendly local doggos.
Treat yourself! Stop by the Dairy Shed in the quaint little village of Bodalla for an ice cream or milkshake, with over 20 flavours to choose. Taste a bunch of local cheese and be sure to head out the back to meet the resident farm animals. Be there for 10am or 4pm for the calves bottle feeding!
Take some time to truly step into nature with this easy rainforest walk. A calming 700m loop track takes you amongst the ferns and rainforest canopy. A great way to stay cool on a hot day and connect with Mother Nature.
