A Love Letter To Sol-itude
Adventure in Barwon Heads, Great Ocean Road, VIC, AU
There is something wildly romantic about disappearing on your own.
No plans to follow. No conversations to fill the silence. Just the freedom to wander wherever your heart leads.
Hidden amongst the trees, my cosy little stay instantly invited me to slow down and breathe in the coastal air. Ocean inspired artwork filled the walls, quietly encouraging me to pay a visit to my dear friend, the sea. The studio had everything I needed, and then some.
Mornings began with coffee in hand as sunlight spilled across the timber floors. Beyond the windows, the gentle rustle of leaves became a sweet reminder that sometimes the best thing we can do is simply pause. Winter in Barwon Heads has a quiet kind of magic. The beaches are peaceful, the salty air feels fresh, and every walk invites you to notice the little things.
One of those little moments came in the form of an unforgettable apricot yoghurt gelato. Holy heck... she was delicious! Creamy, tangy and the perfect companion for a stroll along the shoreline. Because every adventure is just a little sweeter when gelato is involved.
From there, I wandered up to Barwon Heads Bluff Lookout where the coastline stretched endlessly beneath the soft winter sun. Standing above the crashing waves, breathing in the salt air, I was reminded that travelling alone isn't about being lonely. It's about creating the space to reconnect with yourself.
I need these kinds of moments like humans need air. As the day drew to a close, returning to my little hideaway felt less like heading back to accommodation and more like coming home.
When it was time to leave, I realised I wasn't just taking home memories. I was taking home a feeling. The reminder that sometimes the greatest love story is the one you write with yourself, one quiet adventure at a time. Here's to the solo women travellers. May we keep being brave, choosing ourselves and following our hearts.
