La Serra reflections

Our jaws actually hit the floor when we walked into La Serra. Mirrored on three sides, the exterior reflects the surrounding trees and sky, almost disappearing into the landscape. Inside, floor-to-ceiling windows, striking architecture, gorgeous styling and thoughtful little touches from the hosts made the whole place feel incredibly special. And with twin outdoor tubs waiting outside, we knew exactly where we were heading first.

First things first: wine poured, tubs filled, sunset mode activated. The cabin sits tucked into a peaceful gully filled with birds, including a steady stream of black cockatoos cruising overhead. As the sun dropped behind the trees, the light and reflections shifted across the mirrored walls, changing the cabin by the minute. It was pretty magic. Later, tucked into an outrageously comfy bed with beautiful linen, we watched the nearly full moon rise above the tree-line.

Then came morning: coffee in bed, a pink sunrise peeking through the trees and lattes courtesy of the very fancy Smeg coffee machine. The hosts leave a seriously generous breakfast basket loaded with fresh sourdough, eggs, bacon, avocado, goat’s cheese, butter, fresh fruit, yoghurt and granola. We had the cruisest morning cooking, feasting, and fuelling up for the day’s adventures.

Within a 15–25 minute drive of the cabin you’ve got Rocky Creek Dam, Minyon Falls, Goonengerry National Park, and the quirky little towns of Federal and Clunes. An endless option of swimming holes, hikes, waterfalls and great little places to eat right on your doorstep - there was far more than we could possibly squeeze into one trip.

Back at the cabin that evening, we cooked up a feast on the BBQ, poured another wine and settled in by the fire. The only problem? We were already wishing we had another few nights before we had to head home.
