The scenic drive in set the tone immediately, turning off the main road the canopy closed in as we made our way over the hill and into a big open area with the most inviting cabin, sat above a field of alpaca and horses.
Arriving at Avalon River Retreat, our host gave us an amazing tour across the 400-acre property. Between the friendly dogs, grazing cows, alpacas on their daily wander, and wild brumbies galloping across the valley, every frame felt alive.
Days were spent exploring our own slice of ancient rainforest, kayaking down 4km of private river, and finding swimming holes to relax in. Trying to spot a platypus from the flying fox overhead was exciting.
Evenings were pure slowness, watching and listening to kingfishers, spotting eagles, then watching the milky way under a sky worth of being a designated dark spot, before retreating into the cozy cabin with a fire.
We left with a full memory card, a clear mind, and a grounded sense of rejuvenation. It is the ultimate nature retreat, unlike anything we've ever experienced.
We explored the river on the property by kayak, taking in the beautiful scenery, enjoying the quiet surroundings and soaking up nature at our own pace.
