Hidden Gem

There is nothing quite like the fresh, earthy smell of wood, and as we stepped through the door of our eco-cottage, a sense of calm washed over me, and I felt at home immediately. This place bought with it a feeling of nostalgia, and I was transported back to the treehouse of my childhood, only an adult, luxury version.

The self-contained cottage has ceiling to floor windows, and a wrap-around deck leaves you feeling immersed in the towering gums surrounding you. The fireplace was stacked ready, and as we don’t have this treat at home, we made the most of it and kept it roaring our whole trip.

The property has a large reception with almost everything you can think of with an honesty box for things you forgot. We played pool in the games room and dreamed of summer swims. We loved the fresh filtered rainwater, organically grown herbs and veg, I fresh fruit straight off the tree, and free-range eggs.

The area is rich in history and things to do, from seal rock to Hawkes nest, Bennett’s beach or the houseboats near Bulahdelah, you will be hard-pressed to see it all, but an absolute must-do for us was Dark Point, an area of dunes which our host gave us bodyboards to slide down. It was like being in a different world! We loved it that much we returned for sunrise the next day, I knew the light hitting the sand as it rose would be magic, and it was one I won’t forget.

I had a relaxing, fun stay, the fresh produce, a luxury tub to soak in and a hammock to sway in the breeze with bird song in the trees. I would love to return.
