A Slice of Sandon

Being an easy drive out of Melbourne, we kicked our trip off after work one night and enjoyed the scenic drive through the lovely towns out to Sandon Ridge.

As we pulled up, we were immediately excited and had smiles ear to ear. Once we stepped through the gate to our secluded Riparide for the next two nights, we felt like we had just arrived somewhere in Spain - a little bit ironic right now don't you think? Considering we can't leave the country.

We fell in love. From the rustic finishes and beautiful surroundings, we felt at home, comfortable. We spent time with the cute little chickens at the property and enjoyed a delicious couple of pizzas that we managed to whip up and cook ourselves in a gorgeous outside wood fire pizza oven. Our nights were spent in front of the fire, teaching ourselves guitar, enjoying a hot cuppa, and snuggling down watching Netflix.

Daylesford is nearby, as well as plenty of things to do and see. From waterfalls to vintage shops, delicious food and wine around, cafes with beautiful coffee, local produce and little towns to explore, we were never short of activities to do.

This Riparide ticked all of our boxes. We were so so happy to have stayed and couldn't wait to get back and tell our friends. We had the most fantastic time and couldn't recommend it more.

Loddon Falls
Roughly a 30-minute drive from the accomodation at the entrance of Glenlyon lies the Loddon Falls. We hadn't checked this out before but we are glad we found it and stopped off. An easy walk and a great Waterfall!...
The General Store
A quant general store on the main road into Glenlyon, stop off after the falls for food & coffee, local produce & wine....
Wood fire Pizza!
Handmade dough and locally sourced ingredients whipped together following the hosts recipe meant for a nice easy dinner with a glass of wine. Get the fire going a few hours beforehand and have some fun learning the process!...
Pastry King Bakery for lunch
A must visit bakery for a tasty pie and a sweet treat for lunch. On the main strip in Daylesford, you can't miss it....
Hang with the chickens
Feel free to spend some time with the chickens on the property, and they are super friendly and cute. If you are lucky enough, you may even get one asking for cuddles and also get to fetch the fresh eggs for breakfast....
Winespeake Cellar + Deli
On the corner of the main road into Daylesford you will find this fairly new gem. We grabbed a cheeky wine and a slab of delicious local cheese....
Get out and explore the surrounding area / towns.
We jumped in the car with no reception and simply drove, it was great. We found a heap of cute little towns near the property, it was super foggy too which added to the whole experience. We loved it!...
