Bushland Hideaway

There is always something special about spending an evening by the fire, hearing only the sound of chirping cicadas and enjoying the feeling that there is nothing else around you.

We arrived at Parkvale Bush Cabin in the afternoon and immediately was excited about making a fire later, cooking a BBQ , stargazing at night, having breakfast on the verandah, and simply unwinding on our paused road trip from Sydney to Melbourne.

The cabin was just a short drive away from the town center of Granite Rock, but as it was built on private property and surrounded by bushland, we felt miles away from the rest of the world! So quiet and peaceful, this cabin is a perfect place to escape from the fast-paced city life.

We spent the next two days exploring the area, discovering Gippsland Lakes, rustic limestone caves and wandering around Raymond Island, where we spotted heaps of koalas in their natural habitat. These were two incredible days for disconnecting and reconnecting.

Wilson’s cave is one of the Buchan caves, a perfect place for everyone who craves a little adventure. It’s a ‘wild’ cave, with no light installations inside, so make sure you bring the light yourself!...

Just a short ferry ride from Paynesville there is Raymond island - home to about 300 free living koalas. The island is pretty small and it’s easy to walk around, making koala spotting in their natural habitat a breeze....
