Fairytale Getaway

Walking in to the magical space of Poets Lodge is like walking in to a warm hug. You are immediately embraced by a fairytale landscape surrounded by beautiful plants and trees and a grand cottage that takes your breath away. Staying at Poets Lodge was the escapism we needed, that somehow, felt like home.

A getaway has been on the cards for too long and we needed to escape our lockdown blues. We wanted a relaxing vacation where we could detached from our rat-race reality, and Poets Lodge was the perfect setting. Our stay felt like we had temporarily transported in to a world where our only concerns were how long we can keep the fireplace burning, what wine to buy, what beautiful landscapes to explore and how many books we could read. It was perfect!

From early morning walks through picturesque gardens and along serene lakes to a bath looking up at the stars and dinner by the fireplace, the whole experience was absolute tranquility.

We asked our wonderful host Angeline if she had any recommendations for scenic drives in the area and she recommended Porcupine Ridge Road without hesitation. Naturally, we follow her advice and we definitely weren't disappointed. The entree to Porcupine Ridge Road is only about a 10-minute drive from Poets lodge and you can drive it to end in about 30 minutes.

The entire time we were surrounded by rolling grass hills (think Windows screensaver green hills), the sound of birds, castles and absolutely no cars or people in sight. We stopped multiple times along the road to just take in the country air and soak in the sights.

We knew we had to check out the infamous Lake Daylesford during our trip, so we decided to get up early for a sunrise mission on the lake.

As we parked the car in the Lakes main car park, I noticed a beautiful jetty on the other side of the lake, which I just had to see (for some gorgeous photos). After a quick check on the Lakes Map, we realised it was about a 20-minute walk around to the other side of the lake. The walk itself was breathtaking, as we were accompanied by the constant chirping of birds, ducks quacking, water trickling and the smell of clean and crisp country air.

Once we reached the Jetty we quickly fired off a few must-have photos, but the real highlight was sitting on the end of the jetty in complete silence with my fiancé and watching the sunrise. The perfect start to our day!

After our sunrise mission to Lake Daylesford, a warm coffee was on the cards, so we did a quick google search and stumbled across Pancho cafe. Logistically it was also the closest cafe to the Lake (2-minute drive), so it made sense too.

This cafe has a super rustic cottage vibe and serves up some really delicious breakfast's, as well as some top-notch coffees (coming from two coffee phenes). There are upstairs and downstairs areas, as well as an outdoor courtyard that is pet friendly. We chose to sit upstairs for some peace and quiet and it did not disappoint.
