Away at Fellcroft Farmstay

Sixth-generation beef and lamb farmer Veronica invited my partner and I into her beautiful, tranquil farmhouse abode in Cobaw, regional Victoria. Set on 400 acres of vast farmland, the secluded but inviting cottage projected a warmth that can only come from a place of passion and love.

No clocks, no artwork; Hanging Rock is the artwork. Why present beauty inside when it's staring right at you. Upon our arrival, we were greeted with kangaroos, cows, chooks (also known as the ‘girls’ as Veronica likes to call them) on Fellcroft Estate.

Eager to explore more of the surrounds, we took our bikes out for a ride. Unfortunately, due to the storms, many of the nature reserves were closed. However, we commenced our ride from Veronica's property on Cobaw to Lancefield’s local pub (15km later), where we discovered our new favourite beer - Holgates Mt Macedon Pale Ale. We tucked into a few of these (a few g+t's too) in dismay of the kitchen being closed and hopped back on our bikes to see the sunset.

After our tremendous bike ride, we waddled our way out of the brisk, sharp air to be flooded with the warmth of Veronica’s home. We were complemented with a bottle of Shiraz (that aims to support those affected by the Victorian bushfires), farm-fresh eggs, a selection of cheeses, lamb chops, and fresh fruit and vegetables from Veronica’s veggie patch. My partner hopped into the bubble bath large enough to fit at least two people. It even had jets that were positioned perfectly to target those tight quads and the ol’ lower back.

Fellcroft Farmstay is a place to truly unwind and we are so grateful for the hospitality experienced. Veronica’s daughter, Rachel, also creates beautiful homemade soy candles - ranging from ‘Gingerbread’ to ‘Australian Bush.’ We highly recommend you give them a sniff before leaving - we left with 5!

Homely and eclectic, the Mount Macedon hotel was one of our favourite visits. With in-house gin and tonics, a crackling fire and lovely staff, you’d be silly not to pop in. With hundreds of beer tap logos spread across the ceilings of the pub, it's safe to assume they've tried a few beers and know what they're talking about. We cosied up by the crackling fire with a few couple of glasses of wine to reflect and unwind from our busy day.
