Wilderness

Wildness, wine and surf. What more could you want! Hidden behind one of Australia's most iconic beaches is Amarroo a quirky eco cabin situated on a solar operated organic vineyard. Knocking off work early Friday to skip the weekend traffic and grabbing a quick bite to eat in Torquay we were warmly welcomed by owner Will at the cabin. Fire roaring, bottle of wine on arrival and great chats with Will could not have made us feel more at home. You will even be treated by his awesome dog Addis. Looking at the sky littered with stars on our drive in we also took the opportunity to walk through the vineyard at night, taking in the fresh air while playing with some fun night photography. It is crazy how many stars were out. The rest of our weekend was spent in Torquay, Jan Juc and at the gateway of the Great Ocean Road. Surfing and exploring the surroundings with intermittent stops back at the winery where Will would show us around his beautiful property and educate us on his organic wines. It is so nice to be in the presence of passionate people who really love what they do and produce such a tasty quality product! We left with a case of his pinot.

Our stay here was so much more than we expected - the photos don’t do the place justice. It isn’t just the cabin that is very cool but the surrounds are what make this place magical. Situated on the Wolseley Winery surrounded by rows of grape vines, gum trees and stunning dam this place has nature at your door step and a wine cellar 100 meters away if you are feeling thirsty. This place is also dog friendly too so bring your furry friends. Amarroo is a large cabin sleeping 5 people with 3 bedroom. We loved the open plan living space with tall ceilings, spending our time in front of the fireplace or prepping our breakfasts in the kitchen. It also has a large deck area in front with a weber BBQ perfect for sunny afternoons. And we just loved the shower which is this quirky tin room attached to the building with a big shower head. We recommend opening the window and looking out as you shower.
