Japanese-Nordic Luxury in Rye
Adventure in Rye, Mornington Peninsula, VIC, AU
Having stayed previously at this host's other accomodation, The Olive Shed, we were both super excited when we found out that they had this Riparide offering too. The cosy cabin sleeps four people across two rooms, so two couples or a family with two children, but we were lucky enough to have the place to ourselves (just the two of us). The cabin features an array of tasteful design features both inside and out and draws inspiration from both Japanese and Nordic minimal styling. It is both warm and cosy, yet still light and refreshing and is situated in the perfect spot down on the southern Mornington Peninsula with plenty of of food and nature offerings surrounding the property. It is around an hour and 30 minutes from central Melbourne, so it's very accessible for a weekend away or even a mid-week escape.
With a fully equipped kitchen you can either choose to stay in and cook or opt to check out a local dine-in option if that's more your vibe. If you're looking for a winter escape, the cabin features a Scandinavian wood fire heater, which keeps the cabin super cosy and toasty, so we decided to rug up on the couch with a blanket in front of the fire both nights and watch a movie on one of the many streaming services on offer.
After a relaxing two nights of wining and dining, and exploring the local area during the day, we were both rejuvenated and ready to tackle the busy week ahead of us. We would love to come back and stay at YOKO, it's up there there with one of our favourite properties for sure.

A short drive to Portsea from the accommodation you will find the Port Nepean National Park, which is a super nice walk on a sunny day, I think it took around three hours (14.5km). There are some great views and crystal clear blue waters to be seen. We walked along the coast on the way there and then returned through the bush. Be sure to check out the fort at the end and make your way through some of the tunnels.
Blakeaway is a great stop before you tackle the walk for a quick takeaway coffee and a sweet/savoury treat.
We stopped off at one of the many piers along the bay in Sorrento to reset, unwind and drop our feet in the ocean. You can't go wrong for a relaxed walk along any of these beaches down this way.
After going on a hike at Port Nepean we were ravenous, so decided to check out the local strip of shops to see what they had to offer. We stumbled across a quaint little bakery called "Baked in Sorrento", grabbed a couple of fresh pies, a vanilla slice, couple of orange juices and made our way over to the other side of the bay to check out the Sorrento Back Beach.
A nice way to finish off the day of exploring the Mornington Peninsula.
