Off Grid Solitude

This is my kind of weekend escape, a country abode hidden away in the Aussie bush. Here you’ll find no distractions except the local kangaroos and the sound of the wind chimes doing their thing. The Stonehouse Nagambie is an off-grid gem that feels like you’re in the middle of nowhere, yet you're just 10 minutes from town, the lake, and local wineries.

When I think of a weekend in the country this is what I desire. Clean air, blue skies and solitude. Beautifully appointed for a comfortable stay and abundant in 'country character' with a wood fire stove and fireplace in the lounge.

Lazing by the fire or sitting outside and watching the sun go down, Stonehouse has activity options aplenty depending on the weather. We spent a night in, then out as the weather dictated our evenings. The kitchen’s old wood stove still works and was very enjoyable to use.

We ventured into town for coffee and a stroll around the lake. In the afternoon we headed to the local wineries and wetlands eco-trail for our nature fix. We took the weekend really easy, enjoying simple things like chopping wood and mucking around on the old upright piano. The next day we hit up the local bakery and rented a tinnie for a bit of fun on the water. A mix of downtime, wineries, and adventure is to be found in the underrated Nagambie and the Stonehouse was our perfect base.

Massive lake in the heart of town that is hard to miss. Worth a stroll or bike ride around after grabbing a morning coffee.

Hire a tinnie and cruise around the lake or head down the Goulburn River. No license is required it's a great way to get on the water and have some fun. You could even cruise down to the wineries on the river. There are also, kayaks, canoes, SUP's and pedal boats available.

Very unique winery, cellar door and restaurant. Taste wine at the cellar door and check out their cellars. Or head over to the restaurant for a meal and drink right on the river.

Right next to the Tahbilk Winery is the start of the Tahbilk Wetlands Eco-Trail. A lovely stroll along the old bridges and boardwalks amongst the wetlands. We stopped for a picnic amongst the grapevines.

Slightly more upmarket than Tahbilk but stunningly beautiful. Amongst the winery and restaurant, Mitchelton also has a unique observation deck for a fantastic view as well as housing an Indigenous Art Gallery.
