Modern Love
Adventure in Byron Bay, North Coast, NSW, AU
When the going gets tough do you ever close your eyes and daydream of a humble place to escape to by the coast? With a bed fit for a king, a bath under the stars, and a price that doesn't make you reach stupidly deep into your pockets to make it a reality?
Well, that place exists. It's Prairie, Byron and there’s a reason why the area has remained a hot spot for decades… Byron Bay is a melting pot of surf culture, alternative lifestyles and hedonistic pursuits, but that’s not the only attraction… Offering a cultural contrast to Byron’s beach lifestyle, you’ll find there is a lot to discover. The bustling Arts and Industrial Estate is home to a diverse community of innovative, creative businesses and visitors who fail to unearth it risk missing out on a complete Byron experience. The best part? It’s a stone’s throw from the Prairie and with bikes that are provided at the accomodation you can discover much further than the Industrial Estate with a few extra pedals. We had lunch at The Farm and riding to and from wasn’t only a means of transport but also helped work off our indulgent meal!
When it comes to design, it’s clear that no expenses have been spared. The Prairie is flooded with natural light from skylights and windows, framing palms trees as moving pictures and allowing the sun to radiate through the living room and bathroom, but there’s also a rear porch with a north aspect to enjoy a coffee or an afternoon read.
It is beautifully and thoughtfully appointed with furniture from worn store, set with European linen by Cultiver, decorated with ceramics by Kelly Bignell and florals from b.r.a.e.r as well as some unique vintage pieces and everything you need to feel right at home. You can’t help but feel like you’re living in a magazine editorial spread.
If there’s one feature of a stay we value most, it’s an outdoor bath. The stone bath is the staple here, nestled under the stars. A place to find warmth and comfort in cooler months or to enjoy a cool dip and a bit of a breeze on balmy summer nights. Make the most of the herbal flower and salt bath mix as you drift into a different universe.
The only downside to staying at the Prairie is that you’ll wish you booked an extra week because time passes so quickly.

Set on 80 acres of land, Three Blue Ducks at The Farm in Byron Bay offers a truly unique dining experience with a focus on local ingredients and produce.
As the name implies, Comma stands for taking a moment to breathe, regenerate, find calm, and begin again. A place where you’ll have the sort of holistic massage experience that will make you wonder how you ever went on without it.
