Serenity Among the Trees
Adventure in Bandon Grove, Hunter Valley, NSW, AU
Blue Gums Cabins is a beautiful seclusion among the treetops. It is a wonderful hideaway from the hustle and bustle of Sydney and a tranquil experience that reconnected us with nature. As we were driving from Sydney how could we not take a sneaky detour to the Hunter Valley for some local cheese and wine for our stay.
Pulling up to our cabin we were greeted with the harmonious soundscape of birdsong and this remained a highlight of our visit. Even more welcoming were the delicious brownies that are homemade by the host Amanda.
If you are a fan of birdwatching, then this location should be high on your list. Take your camera and your binoculars as you won't want to miss the variety of birdlife that perches on the trees right next to your balcony. Watch out for the infamous “Screen Ripping Kookaburra” who isn’t afraid to get up close and personal.
Nature continues to inspire you as you enter the cabin with the elegantly designed natural timber roof, timber floors and a balcony that transports you directly to the thriving bushland. The cabin is fully equipped with a cosy kitchen, four-poster king-sized bed, large spa bath and a touch of luxury with bathrobes that are provided. This is a perfect space for two, with plenty to do inside the cabin and out.
The grounds are teeming with wildlife as you roam across the property you will be greeted by pademelon, possums and if you're lucky you will see an echidna or koala. If that’s not enough, you can make your way down to the tennis courts for a quick match, then cool off by the lagoon pool. The surrounding national park boasts some stunning waterfalls and scenic hikes through the lush bushland.
Everything about this property is the antithesis of city life. A sanctuary to pause, rejuvenate and reset.

On our road trip to Bandon Grove, we took a sneaky detour to Audrey Wilkinson Wineries in the Hunter Valley to pick up some local produce of cheese and wine. One of the best views of the Hunter is from this car park.
With a range of wildlife on the property and in close proximity to the cabin you are bound to come across some furry/feathery friends. Keep a keen eye out for them with your cameras ready.
Exploring the national park hiking trails. A popular trail through the subtropical rainforest is the Jerusalem Creek Trail filled with waterfalls, creeks, and towering gums that raise the canopy into the sky. It's a casual 2km return hike.
The water lifeline to many areas such as Maitland, Cessnock and Beresfield. The Chichester Dam is a great location to have a picnic, check out the dam wall and the river itself. Walk on top of the dam wall and look down on the water beneath or take the walking track down to the bottom of the reservoir for a different perspective.
If you love to start your day off with a beautiful view as the sun rises, you can't go past the rolling hills at Mulconda Park property.
The edge of the road offers incredible views of the Bandon Grove region with rolling hills and stunning views of the countryside.
