Escape to the Bush

It was instantaneous. From the second we saw the Carawirry Forest Escape sign surrounded by lush trees with the river running parallel to the road, a sense of relaxation washed over us, and it lingered for days after we returned home. We followed the road up to The Cottage and were in love. Both inside and out, it was full of character and was equipped with everything we needed for an amazing stay. With no one else in sight, our time at The Cottage at Carawirry was the perfect break from city life.

Our days were spent exploring, there were trails and waterfalls to discover across the property, dams and rivers to swim or have picnics as well as Chichester State Forest and Barrington National Park just a short drive away (we loved Jerusalem Creek Falls and the drive there was picturesque).

We finished the days eating dinner watching kangaroos from the verandah, taking baths in the outdoor tub with the heavenly scented bath soaks, curling up to watch movies by the fireplace and roasting marshmallows outside with the cottage illuminated by fairy lights behind us. As we were leaving, we both agreed this was somewhere special that we had to come back to as soon as possible.

We headed to Barrington Tops National Park to do one of the many walks. We found some nice swimming holes along the way to cool off! The water was beautiful (but the track was a bit muddy so be prepared!)

We ventured out thinking this was just a little waterfall near a car park. There are two car parks at either end of a stretch of creek, so it can either be a quick stop or a few hours. There was so much to explore. We walked up the creek from the top of the main falls and found more beautiful cascades and swimming pools, we didn't see a single person!

There were lots of trails across the property. The Cottage had plenty of maps and advice, so we set off on a loop with a detour to a waterfall. It was stunning!
We were in awe driving through the local forests and took lots of detours because we couldn't get enough! The landscape changed from lush green rainforests to tall plantations and back. There was something new to see out every window every minute! But watch out for kangaroos!
