Cabin in Main Creek, Hunter Valley, NSW, AU

No pets
Two outdoor baths, side by side among the trees. A fireplace downstairs. Coffee on the deck before you’ve decided what to do with the day.
The Treehouse is a timber forest cabin at Carawirry Forest Escape, near Dungog. Come as a couple and enjoy the space, or bring the family for a few days together.
Upstairs, two bedrooms each have a queen bed and double sofa bed, sleeping up to eight. Blockout curtains divide the bedrooms rather than solid doors, so it suits people comfortable sharing space. For multiple couples wanting separate-bedroom privacy, consider the Cottage or Tathra House.
The private bathhouse connects to the upper deck, with twin outdoor baths. Downstairs, there’s a kitchen, dining area, fireplace lounge and rainfall-shower bathroom.
An oven, dishwasher, full-size fridge/freezer, pod coffee machine, reverse-cycle air conditioning and Starlink Wi-Fi keep the practical side easy. Linen, towels and toiletries are included, along with a gas BBQ and outdoor firepit. There are numerous steps, including internal stairs between the two floors.
Beyond your cabin
Carawirry spans 250 acres of forest. Our four main accommodation spaces are generously spread out, with privacy built into their placement. You can sit on your veranda without looking onto someone else’s stay.
Head out along around 10 kilometres of maintained walking tracks, follow the creek to the waterfall and its swimming hole, or take your binoculars and see which birds you spot. If you like a morning run, swap the suburban footpath for forest tracks and gravel roads. After dark, settle outside for a look at the stars, away from city lights.
Nearby, you’ll find river swimming spots, hiking trails and cross-country mountain biking. Dungog Common is about a 20-minute drive away, with Ride Dungog’s maintained flow trails. Bring your bike, your walking shoes—or leave the day open and see what takes your fancy.
A few things you can arrange before you arrive
Once your booking is confirmed, we’ll send you information on the extras you can book through local providers.
Order grazing boxes, breakfast hampers, dinner boxes or a celebration cake from our local caterer, made with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. You can also arrange an in-cabin massage or treatment, along with other local experiences.
And if it’s been a while since you’ve had everyone in a photo together, consider a family photography session in the forest. It’s a lovely setting for engagement photos too—or simply some photos of the two of you.
These extras are booked and paid for separately, subject to provider availability.

Additional Information
Conditions of Booking — Keeping The Treehouse Wild & Wonderful
We keep things relaxed and easy at Carawirry, but there are a few important conditions that help protect you, the cabins, the wildlife and the experience of everyone staying here.
Registered guests only
The Treehouse is for the guests included in your booking. Parties, events and additional daytime visitors aren’t permitted.
Sofa beds must be requested
The two queen beds are made as standard. The double sofa bed in each upstairs bedroom is only prepared when requested before arrival.
If you’ll need either sofa bed, please let us know ahead of time. We may not have someone available to prepare an additional bed after you’ve checked in.
Take care on the stairs
The Treehouse has internal and external staircases, elevated verandahs and naturally uneven outdoor surfaces.
Both bedrooms and the bathhouse are upstairs. Children must be supervised around the staircases, verandahs, bathhouse and firepit at all times.
Bathe safely
The private bathhouse contains two deep soaking tubs. Children must never use the bathhouse without direct adult supervision.
Please take care when stepping in and out of the tubs and when walking on wet deck surfaces. A forest bath is meant to loosen your shoulders—not test your balance.
Fires in the forest
Indoor fireplace supplies are provided from March through to the end of October only.
From November through to February, we don’t supply firewood, tools or lighting equipment for the indoor fireplace.
Firewood, firelighters and a lighter are supplied for the outdoor firepit throughout the year. However, fires must never be lit during applicable NSW fire restrictions or Total Fire Bans. Please check the conditions before lighting any outdoor fire and fully extinguish it when you’re finished.
Smoke outdoors only
If you smoke, please do so outside and well away from doors, windows and dry vegetation.
Cigarette butts belong in the bin—never on the ground. A single ember can cause very real trouble in the forest.
Humans only
Carawirry is filled with native wildlife, and we’d love to keep it that way. Pets can’t join you at The Treehouse, including the exceptionally cute and beautifully behaved ones.
Be drain aware
Only toilet paper and the obvious human contribution should go down the toilet. Please don’t flush wipes, sanitary products, paper towel or anything else.
A blocked drain deep in the forest? Trust us—you don’t want that.
Keep the quiet
Please keep noise to a minimum between 9 pm and 9 am.
Sound carries differently through the trees, so voices and music can travel further than you might expect. Enjoy your own space and please respect the quiet of guests staying elsewhere on the property.
Stick to your space
The Treehouse and its bathhouse are private for your use. Other cabins are equally private for their guests.
You’re welcome to wander the marked Carawirry trails, but please don’t enter the grounds, driveways or outdoor areas surrounding another cabin.

We had such a magical time at the Treehouse! From the moment we entered, we felt the peaceful charm of the house and the surrounded rainforest. It’s so tranquil, I’m so pleased we didn’t need to leave... the house at all whilst we were there. The highlight was the baths for sure! But also the fireplace, the different settings to relax and the incredible shower! The nearby walks were perfect for us. The very friendly wallabies were incredible! As soon as we arrived we wanted to stay longer. Thanks so much for such a beautiful stay, it was just what the doctor ordered.

Hi, we’re Heather and John — the owners behind Carawirry Forest Escape.
We bought these 250 acres in 2017, when our three kids were still tiny. The forest was beautiful, overgrown and in need of plenty of care. We’ve spent the years since rebuilding cabins, reopening trails and learning how to look after this rather special patch of Australian wilderness.
When Heather arrives after being away, she nearly always stops and looks up at the trees before doing anything else. John’s usually checking tree heads, tracks, water pumps or firewood, while the kids make a beeline for the waterfall, creeks and whatever wildlife has wandered through.
The forest is the hero here. The cabins simply let you stay long enough to feel it.
Carawirry is fully self-check-in, so we won’t be waiting at the door when you arrive. Your space and privacy are part of the experience. Behind the scenes, though, our family is making sure the tracks are clear, the firewood is stacked and your cabin is ready for you.
If you need us, just give us a coo-ee.
Warmly,
Heather, John + the kids

These are the exclusive natural wonders and outdoor activities within the property boundaries.
Wildlife On The Property
Carawirry Forest Escape boasts rainforest, several creeks, high country, ridge forests and open grassland. Because of this diversity of habitat, the property is home to a wonderful variety of animals and plants. Among the animals, the endangered Parma wallaby, powerful owl, and the koala, bettong and potoroo.
Bushwalking On The Property
Carawirry is home to several kilometres of bushwalking trails, as well as thousands of hectares of neighbouring State Forest to explore. All trails are clearly marked and easy enough to follow.
We recommend walking/running in the early morning or early evening (dusk), as that will give you the best chance of spotting at least one of the local animal residents. We suggest you wear firm, supportive shoes and socks for protection when walking through bushland and avoid sandals and thongs.
Always keep to the marked tracks when exploring Carawirry. This is especially important for children. Unfortunately, there are some troublesome ‘natives’ everyone encounters at some time or another in the forest, including leeches, ticks, spiders and snakes.

Swimming
We have creeks, dams, and waterfalls on and around the property and in the neighbouring State Forest and National Park.
