The Rimu Hut - Cosy Off-grid Bush Escape
A-frame in Ararimu, Auckland, NZ

A tramping-style A-frame chalet nestled against rimu trees on the edge of a stunning 15-acre native forest block close to the Hunua Ranges in rural South Auckland.
Built by the owners using macrocarpa timber grown on the property, it was intended to be a place where their grandchildren could enjoy sleepovers in the forest and afternoon adventures. They soon realised though, that such a special place should be shared so they decided to make it available to others. Cosy in winter, cool in summer!
Please note - the Rimu Hut is hugely popular so if you cannot secure a booking for your preferred dates, you may find the newly listed Treehouse (same location and same hosts) is available.

Additional Information
The Rimu Hut is not connected to power but still contains everything needed for a comfortable, relaxing escape.
Downstairs, there is a basic camp-style kitchen with a small sink and a single gas hob.
Tea, coffee, and milk are all provided, and a food-safe will keep food items cool for a day or so. Downstairs you will also find two built-in seats/beds which look out over native bush and farmland through a large window. A small woodstove will let you warm the place up in cold weather and the well-insulated A-frame walls/roof will ensure it stays warm through the night.
The upstairs sleeping loft contains a king-size double bed and a bench seat/single bed. It is accessed via a wooden ladder through an opening in the loft floor.
The bathroom is in a separate building, a few steps from the Hut and connected by a timber deck. Enjoy the hot gas-fired shower with private views through the native trees. Thirty metres away is a self-composting long-drop toilet.
The Rimu Hut, and its bathroom and toilet facilities, contain battery-powered lighting. Candles are also supplied. A torch is also provided for reaching the outhouse and bathroom at night.
Transfers are available from and to Bombay Intercity Bus Stop at extra cost.
The Hut is accessed via a private gravel farm road- past paddocks where cows and sheep graze. From the farm road, a private gravel driveway leads to the Hut. Cars can be parked twenty metres away, then guests will need to climb over a stile and walk along a short track to reach the Hut.
The main farmhouse is situated 200 metres away so guests can have complete privacy if they wish. However, we will be available if you need anything.
Step off the deck of the Rimu Hut into the native forest onto a private walking track leading to a wetland pond and past glow worms (at night).
The Hunua Ranges with the impressive Hunua Falls, dams, mountain bike trails and tramping tracks are a 10-minute drive away. Hunua Village has a store and petrol station with good coffee. Clevedon Village is a further 10-minute drive and has cafes, interesting gift shops, and is known for Sunday markets selling local produce. There are also lots of shops and eateries in nearby Bombay and Pukekohe, and a list of these will be provided.
Auckland Airport is just a 35-minute drive away (in off-peak traffic).
However, guests will need their own transport as the Rimu Hut is situated in the countryside, far from public transport routes. Once you arrive though, you may not want to go anywhere as the retreat is located in such idyllic surrounds
Cellphone coverage is limited, with a small amount of 4G connectivity available in some, but not all, areas of the Hut and its surrounds.
There is no WiFi available.
Please take off your shoes before entering the cabin.
Please wash, dry and put away your dishes before you check out.
Upon leaving please put used bathroom and bed linen in the shower.

I am a builder. I have really enjoyed creating a cabin in the bush and are happy to make it available for others to enjoy. Also I like to help others experience our beautiful farm. My wife and I enjoy the outdoors, new experiences and meeting people.
