Set in the holiday park on the 280 acres Mohaka River Farm, with the beautiful Mohaka river just 150 m walk away our farm offers wonderful views over the river and down the valley. Slow down and enjoy some time here. The nights are quiet and starlit, and the birdsong in the morning is blissful.

Handmade, using locally grown Hawke's Bay timber and the skilful know-how and labour of our friends from Heritage Timbercraft—a family-owned and operated timber mill and timberframing business here on the farm—helped restore this Pioneer’s Cottage from the ground up. From the pottery to the rocking chair perfectly positioned for a sunset over the hills, was all made on site with hearts and hands that want you to experience a place woven together by locally gifted humans who love to work with their hands! There are plenty to choose from - from guided fishing and hunting to horse treks, crafts, pottery workshops, knife making, and log-to-home tours. We are off the beaten track in all the right ways, with everything you never knew you needed and nothing you don't.

Guests can access the river for fishing, picnics, and water activities; they can use the walking and cycling tracks; and enjoy seasonal animal interactions, as Horse trekking is a wonderful way to see the property.

We do NOT allow pets (as we are a working farm).

Amazing part of New Zealand, complemented by the lovely Mphaka River Farm setup. The chalet was very clean and comfortable, with everything you could need. The ablution facilities are close by and ver...y clean and neat. The people are amazing. Friendly and helpful without being pushy. The horse trek is highly recommended. A great place to visit.

Outstanding place to stay. Hospitality was genuine, highly recommend staying here. Off the grid meaning the kids had to find their own fun. Which they did and enjoy family time. Also got good quality ...activities for all involve. If you stay the Saturday night the pizza option was one of the best we ever tasted.

First of all, very responsive in our last minute booking! The view from the chalet is incredible especially waking up and having coffee in the morning. It has all the basic necessities you will need a...nd such a lovely cosy accomodation!

Just a note to maybe mention that is is a couple of km of gravel road or I must have missed details.

River To Ranges Horse Trekking

We have two 3-4 hour options: one for beginners, the other is for more confident riders. Refreshments are provided alongside our highly experienced and fun horse trekking guides. We also have the option for people with their own well-trained horses to bring them here for a ride.

Meet The Farm Animals

While staying at the property we had the opportunity to meet several of the resident farm animals including the cutest little calves, horses, chickens and two oxen who were providing ox cart rides for anyone wanting to have a go!

Horse Trekking

There are fourteen resident horses on the property and we were immediately excited to visit them. We booked a horse trek and spent a delightful 90 minutes exploring pine forests and fields on horseback. The horses are so gentle and well trained, it made the trek easy even for people with no experience.

We thoroughly enjoyed ending a long day beside the firepit roasting marshmallows and making some smores. If you forget to bring your own marshmallows you can also buy them from reception.

Wood Fired Pizza

We were lucky enough to stay at Mohaka River Farm on a Saturday night when the property makes their own delicious wood-fired pizzas in a handmade pizza kiln. We definitely recommend it for anyone staying over the weekend!

Mohaka River

The beautiful Mohaka River offers trout fishing opportunities as well as exciting rafting adventures.

Bell Rock Loop Track

On our final day, we decided to hike the Bell Rock Loop Track. The walk is around 3hrs return and takes you through forest and farmland. The sandstone rock formations were impressive even under a layer of cloud and I can only imagine how good the views would be on a clear day.

Shine Falls

Shine Falls is a 1.5 hour return walk. The walk passes through farmland and beneath towering sandstone bluffs. There are some uphill sections on the track as well as stream crossings, but they are all bridged and easy. Low-land forest includes kanuka, kawakawa, kowhai and titoki.

Wine Tasting At Crab Farm

A great stop to sample some local wines. The tasting room is complete with an indoor fire, makes for a cosy place to enjoy a glass of Pinot Noir (with a great menu if you’re also feeling peckish). The nearby Art Shed is also worth a visit, showcasing a range of local artwork.

A spontaneous stop during our trip led us to this little gem along the Napier waterfront. At Roam Cafe, we grabbed one of their toasted sandwiches before taking the short walk across to the beach to enjoy it with views over the ocean.
