Charming Cottage on the Coast

We arrived at the this charming cottage to the welcoming sound of a crackling fire and the rhythmic crashing of waves on the distant horizon. Located on farmland right on the Wairoa coastline, and surrounded by fruit trees and grassy hills, the cottage is the perfect place to relax and unwind from busy city life.

We spent the day exploring the area, first roaming along the majestic coastline just five minutes’ walk from the property, then visiting the local town. By the mid-afternoon we couldn’t wait to get back and relax at the cottage, with its many spots to sit and enjoy the view of the countryside. We visited the resident farm animals and were even lucky enough to meet the host’s six-week-old puppies.

After an eventful day, we were so excited to unwind in the hot tub and watch the sun slowly set on the horizon. We couldn’t imagine anywhere we’d rather be!

Stretching for kilometres along the Hawke Bay coast, Waihua Beach is a stunning, remote, black-sand beach you won't want to miss if you're in the area. We went for a morning walk and had the whole beach to ourselves.

Shine Falls is one of the most spectacular waterfalls on the North Island. An easy, 30-minute walk will take you across farmland and through forest to the base of the falls. If you're ready to brave the cold you can swim here too!

A visit to the small town of Wairoa isn't complete without a quick stop a the historical Wairoa Lighthouse. Originally located on Portland Island, the lighthouse was active from 1878 to 1960 before being replaced by an automated system and relocated to Wairoa.

We had the most delicious pizzas from the Farm Shop, which is open on Sundays and right next to the cottage. Visitors can also buy produce from the farm here.
