Additional Information
As soon as you step into this magical log cabin, you’ll be transported back in time. You’ll immediately admire the warm-glow of the original hand-peeled logs and delight in the signature details of Steiner’s masterpiece like the staircase made of split logs and curving branches.
The rock fireplace with wood-burning stove is the centerpiece, the perfect spot to relax with a good book on a rainy day. The vaulted ceiling with crisscross log beams create a true lodge experience.
The master bedroom is so cozy you may not want to get out of bed! Wake up refreshed in the queen bed with a new memory foam mattress. Everywhere you look are charming details, like rustic light fixtures, hand-made log mirror, log shelves and Steiner’s secret “snack door” to the kitchen. A built-in wall heater can keep the room toasty all night, but you might not need under the snug warmth of Pendleton blankets.
The upstairs sleeping loft offers two twin beds and a playful constellation-like array of Edison-style bulbs.
The bright kitchen has all the original "farmhouse" charm of the 1930s, featuring whitewashed shiplap walls, breakfast nook, and a stunning solid redwood countertop. Every detail is vintage, but all the appliances and fixtures are brand new. With stove, fridge, microwave, and dishwasher, you’ll be able to cook up classic cabin meals.
The restored bathroom features the original clawfoot tub with reproduction shower hardware, heated tile floor, and beautiful vessel sink on a custom redwood countertop.
Adhering to its classic roots, the cabin is decorated with art of local wildflowers and hand-made furniture in the rustic style.
Outside, you can grill on the deck, or roast marshmallows in the fire pit. (Excluding times of fire bans, of course.)
The cabin sits on a third of an acre, surrounded by towering old growth fir and cedar trees. You’ll have the property to yourself–close enough to neighboring cabins for safety, but screened enough for privacy.
Guest access
Conveniently located just off of Highway 26, it is an easy drive to great restaurants, groceries, the Sandy Ridge Trail System, ski slopes, and all the great trails and recreation of the Mt Hood National Forest.
Although you’ll be close to all the amenities of Mt Hood, and located in a quiet neighborhood, this cabin will feel like your own own private getaway. Through the windows, you’ll see views of the old growth trees. The fresh mountain air will have the rich scent of moss and ferns. And your ears will hear the rushing of nearby Boulder Creek as it tumbles into the Salmon River.
The cabin may get some snow in the winter, but is accessible year-round.
Other things to note
Historic Stairs
The stairs are hand-carved from logs by Henry Steiner in 1930--as such they are not to modern proportions and are slightly narrow, irregular, and uneven. Please keep this in mind and be careful with your footing. Not recommended for anyone with mobility concerns. Guests assume their own risk.
Fragile/Breakable
The cabin is more than 90-years-old. Just like a person, it has grown more fragile with age. Be aware that most every part of it is fragile and one-of-a-kind. Please treat it as irreplaceable and with respect.
Security Deposit
If damage occurs, guests can be charged for replacement or repair.
Seclusion / Expectations
Located on a gravel loop road in a quiet neighborhood, the property is just off of Highway 26 and some slight highway noise may be heard during certain times of day. Guests may see other neighbors walking dogs, or driving down the road. However, the cabin is on private property and screened by large trees. You won’t have to worry about being too remote, isolated, or getting stranded.

No wearing of shoes inside cabin
No chopping wood inside cabin

Hi, I’m your host Ian. I am honored to be the steward of this historic cabin. When I was 17, I volunteered for the Mt Hood National Forest, which planted the dream to someday own a small rustic cabin on Mt Hood. After restoring this magical cabin with the loving help of friends and family, I am honored to share it with you, so you can make your own lifetime memories.
