Homier Than Home!
Adventure in Auckland, Waiheke Island, NZ
"Even more homely than home" is the thought that will enter your head the moment you step foot on this property. The host does nothing short to make sure you are not just treated as another "client", but as a part of the Waiheke Island family, putting the attention to detail in your own home, when you host friends or family, to shame.
Your name greets you in Scrabble tiles by the front door. Fresh OJ, milk, eggs from their chooks, the cutest vine tomatoes from their garden are all in the fridge, plus chocolate snacks and complimentary spritzers! Yes, spritzers! All just a fraction of the love infused into your stay at this cosy place.
Aside from the bonus of yummy and nostalgic items (did I mention the weet-bix jar?), Four Huia is fully equipped with everything and more you would expect to need for a weekend, or week, on Waiheke Island.
Located just two minutes drive or a 10 minutes walk to the closest white sand beach, Little Oneroa, and three minute drive to the main township on the island, Oneroa, you are so well placed for exploring and experiencing it all. Beaches, vineyards, a home away from home, this stay is all you could hope for.

Things We Did
- Beach
- Walk
Palm Beach is my favourite accessible Waiheke Island beach and for a good reason. Beautiful rock enclosed cove, walking distance to a dairy for summer's day ice block, nudie option around the bay to the left for the naturists, and being central on Waiheke, it's never too far to drive to. With beautiful clear blue waters, public toilets, BBQs, and a playground for the kiddies (or playful adults) all available, it really is a beach welcoming to all.
This one to one and a half hour walk takes you along the coastal path that every two years, normally in February or March, hosts the Sculpture of the Gulf exhibition. Either you're lucky to be there at the same time, or very well planned. But even without the sculptures, you are guaranteed to get a beautiful coastal cliff walk that looks down on various coves and back at Matiatia itself. There are ample Pohutukawhas lining your path that loops back to where you started, no matter what direction you head. This is a great one for those who are holidaying but still want to get moving. Suitable for all fitness conditions however not much shade, so come prepared with a hat, sunblock and sunglasses for this one!
