Comfy & Cozy Ashford Cabin
Adventure in Ashford, Mount Rainier, WA, US
Nestled on a private patch in Ashford, Dan's Place was the coziest weekend retreat to spend some time close to the mountain. A scenic, roughly two-and-half-hour drive from the Seattle area, the cabin is located just minutes from the Nisqually entrance to Mount Rainier National Park.
After arriving at the cabin, which is equipped with all the essentials for a comfortable stay, I relaxed and enjoyed a nice fire outside and listened to endless sounds of nature – the wind blowing through the trees, birds conversing in all directions. It started raining in the evening so I cozied up on the couch and enjoyed a movie before hitting the hay.
Since there was still a lot of snow at the summit on the mountain, I had to check updates about whether or not I was able to go up to Paradise the next morning. It was closed for the day so I made my way up to Longmire instead and enjoyed a nice hike on Rampart Ridge. Thankfully, I was able to access the summit my last day and do some snow-shoeing on the mountain and experience Rainier in a white coat. The clouds cleared out and it was a spectacular view!
Whether you're looking for a solo recharge or a small-group hang, Dan's Place is the perfect getaway.

Rampart Ridge is a 5-mile loop trail that is accessed at Longmire, just before the gate that leads you up to Paradise. The trail is moderately steep and has several switchbacks that lead you to a few view points. During the winter you may encounter snow towards the top, so it may be a good idea to bring some snow tracks or snow shoes. Be on the lookout for the gray jays that fly by to greet you – they can be super curious!
Copper Creek Inn is located on the side of the road on your way to and from the national park. I stopped in to try their famous homemade blackberry pie, which was so delicious to the last bite. The restaurant has a variety of meals to choose from, but the pie is definitely a must!
As you drive up Paradise Road, you'll see a lot to the side with a sign directing you to Narada Falls. The hike is only about five minutes, but you get a really neat view of the falls from the ridge. Be sure to add this quick, easy stop on your way down from the mountain!
