A Cabin Reset at the Base of Mt Hood

Tucked in away in a quiet loop at the base of Mt Hood, this historic Steiner cabin is a structure with nearly a hundred years of history. It's been lovingly restored to transport visitors back to a simpler time.

Crafted in the 1930s, this idyllic home was designed by Henry Steiner, Oregon’s most beloved and prolific cabin builder. As you drive towards the home, you’ll pass neighboring historic Steiner cabins, giving you a sense that you’re discovering a place frozen in time.

This particular cabin is unique in its charm and appearance. Many details throughout the home, including a basalt rock fireplace, curved wood banisters and unique log beams supporting the frame of the cabin, showcase locally sourced materials. Whether you’re enjoying a cup of coffee on the front porch or climbing the stairs to the second-storey loft, you’re sure to discover unparalleled craftsmanship that highlights Oregon's rustic style of architecture and design.

While the details have been meticulously preserved to show their original charm, the home boasts modern conveniences that cater to all travelers. The kitchen is well stocked with quality cast iron bakeware, updated appliances, and artisan glassware – including handblown glasses with Mt Hood molded into the base of the glass. In the living room, you’ll find cozy nooks to curl up with a book and a cabinet filled with games to enjoy by the firelight.

This cabin is the perfect home base for exploring the best of Mt Rainier. Enjoy seasonal opportunities to pick huckleberries, snowshoe to alpine lakes, hike behind waterfalls and sample locally made craft beer. Whether you’re looking for a challenging trek or a leisurely kayak, you’re only a few minutes away from the best activities on Mt Hood when you stay at this cozy Steiner cabin.

A quintessential Mt Hood hike, Tamanawas Falls is a gentle, four-mile trek that follows a river to a waterfall cascading over a stunning lava cliff. There’s a bit of a rock scramble near the end, but the waterfall is well worth the effort. Plus, you can actually hike up behind the waterfall – it feels like a slice of Iceland in Oregon!
