Secret Getaway in the Mountains

The A-frame boasts cozy comfort and brings nature and camp vibes inside. There are plenty of local outdoor adventure books and fun old photos of what life looked like on film. But the ace of it all is the second A-frame loft. The whole nostalgia of the place will keep me coming back for more!

It was a rainy summer week in July when we left the city and found solace in the mountains. Packwood is a quaint town; locals gather outside the coffee shop to talk of their electric bike adventures up the trails, while elk walk up and down the streets alongside artists and creatives. It may be a small town, but it's a huge destination. When there was a break in the rain, we headed to see the ancient basalt columns in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. When the rain started up again we found a cup of coffee and a good book. Packwood is truly the master of marrying cozy cabins and outdoor adventures – a stay in the A-frame mountain getaway is a must!

This ADA-accessible trail is a paved path that takes you through the history of geology in the area. I know – totally sounds nerdy, but the shape of the rock formations is pretty mysterious. Waterfalls line the mountainside, and if you go in the summer you are sure to see tons of wildflowers!

This hidden gem is only open from 8am–3pm and has the best breakfast around! Opt-in for the hot sauce made with habaneros and carrots – you won't regret it. Fuel up before a hike or get a burrito to go on your way out of town.

Grab coffee like a local at the Mountain Goat; get maps for Mt Rainier National Park or Gifford Pinchot National Forests from guides at the visitor centre; enjoy vintage finds and one-of-a-kind gifts at the new Mercantile shop in town! You can spend hours in this little town despite it only being one street long.
