Adsum Farmhouse's to your Bucket List

The Adsum Farmhouse is a beautiful bed & breakfast located in Glenlyon, which is a 10 to 15-minute drive from the heart of Daylesford.

Adsum in Latin means 'I am present' and that is exactly the state of mind you will find yourself in here. Surrounded by farmland and native wildlife, you'll be greeted by the most beautiful hosts — and you really will make yourself at home.

I used this opportunity for a wholesome weekend away alone to switch off from the world and rejuvenate. Arriving around 3pm, I had just enough time to visit a new winery nearby called Red Hare Estate. With the plan to get myself a bottle of wine to have with dinner, I soon became completely distracted by the beauty of this place and warm welcome from the staff, so I forgot to buy any bloody wine!

After one of those 'slept like a log' kinda sleeps because the bed was just heavenly, I had an extra large serving of the locally produced sourdough and jam I was provided for breakfast and then I was on a mission to find Daylesford's best coffee! And hallelujah, Pancho Cafe provided the goods! With a cheeky muffin on the side, this got the blood pumping and ready to explore all that Daylesford had to offer.

My first stop was the Hepburn Mineral Springs... obviously. You can't visit a place without experiencing what the town is known for. I was greeted by a very spritely group of oldies who saw me struggling to capture a photo on my own and gave me a hand! Bless! They then proceeded to make a comment about my rumbling stomach and recommend a beautiful restaurant called Koukla for lunch.

Feeling ready for a wine but with a little bit of energy left to explore first, I did a quick stop at The Blowhole. It's just a six-minute drive out of Daylesford and I was lucky enough to have the whole place to myself so I took a seat and soaked it all in.

Last but absolutely not least... wine! Finally! And I could not recommend Winespeake Cellar + Deli enough. A generous amount of stunning local and imported wines and a huge selection of cheeses, dips and everything else your palette desires. So I grabbed a bottle of Pinot Noir (my favourite) and a naughty little range of platter things, then off I trotted back to The Adsum Farmhouse for a cosy indoor fire, and Netflix & chill (by myself.. haha).

Did you know... all of Australia's mineral springs occur in Victoria!? With the two main locations being Daylesford and Hepburn it is a MUST do when you visit. Learn a little bit about the history of the springs, taste the water (with caution haha.. I wasn't a fan) and if the weather permits enjoy the beautiful nature walk the springs are placed along.

Because what day full of adventure can possibly start without COFFEE! Pancho Cafe is located in the picturesque hillside of Daylesford and is a family-run business providing its customers with fresh and locally sourced produce. Their coffee is delicious (coming from a Melbourne coffee snob) and you can't go past their fresh-out-of-the-oven muffins to go with it!

When I saw 'blowhole' I innocently expected massive amounts of water gushing out of the ground at random moments. So I'm here to tell you that that is NOT the only type of blowhole apparently. This one was artificially built by gold miners in the early 1870s to divert the water away from the original creek line. Accessed via a short scenic walk from the carpark, it was such a relaxing spot to sit and unwind from the day's activities.

With the majority of the surrounding wineries only being open on the weekend, Red Hare only closes their doors on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Rain, hail or shine, you can enjoy a wine tasting outside in the garden with the view of the vines or inside next to a crackling fireplace.

You can't miss this one. Koukla at Hotel Frangos is the first thing you will see as you enter the roundabout in the main street of Daylesford. Drawn in by the ornamental vines wrapped around the building and an open fire crackling inside, with so much to see in the main street of Daylesford, it's the perfect lunch (or wine) stop to break up the day.

If you're a true wine lover like myself, then you will appreciate the wines this cosy little cellar has in stock. They seek out the most sought-after wines from all over the world and then pair them with just as sought-after deli produce. Take a seat at the window and enjoy an in-house tasting or take a selection of your favourite things back to your accommodation to enjoy.
