Off Grid Hillside Escape
Adventure in Mudgee, Country NSW, NSW, AU
The mining era may have ended many moons ago, though we struck gold upon arrival to the Glenayr farm. This off-grid luxury Villa is beautiful inside and out.
Arriving after a special lunch at the Zin House celebrating Rosie's birthday, a few delicious Mudgee wines had set the mood for the evening, and the hot tub needed to be enjoyed with a further bottle. This easy to use fire heated spa also has plumbing to start you off with some warm water if you wish too.
The peacefulness of a place this far out of town (30min drive) nestled amongst the vast rolling hills of hill end, the solitude sunk in and as night fell, we immersed ourselves in the hot tub, poured some wine and got lost in the stars.
We rose to a thin layer of fog seeping its way through the hills and paddocks. Keep the curtains open at night to wake up to the beauty of the valley you face. Mornings were enjoyed on the balcony drinking coffee, tasting the local baked goods of Mudgee with our kangaroo friends and lazing around this beautifully finished villa reading books and listening to music. There is some cool history to this property so make sure you take a walk and find it!
Venturing out for the day, we walked our way up the Goulburn River along the Drip Gorge walking track. Plenty of birds, lizards and snake... skins were seen. Cooling off at the gorge, we had this spectacular place to ourselves for an hour swimming around the clear rushing waters.
We left Glenayr Farm with a deep content with our stay. Clocking off and enjoying the western plains of australia with good people, good food and good wine in a special place. We enjoyed this one.

Things We Did
- Walk
- Restaurant
Making our our way 20 minutes along the well maintained walking track to Drip Gorge. Hugging the beautifully clear waters of the Goulburn river we encountered varying species of birds, lizards and even a large snake skin that had been shed on a fallen tree over the rushing stream. On a hot day take your swimmers! The water is amazing to cool off in.
What a vibe this place is. Making new friends at the tasting table, a six course lunch at the Zin house and some time between sittings for a short exploration around the magnificent property. For a special occasion this is nice afternoon spent.
Like i said before, there is a bit of history around this property if you want to venture off and find it. Take a roady and go have a drink at Whiteys Bar. You will definitely learn something!
