Chillout at the Riverhouse

We set off for our weekend at the Riverhouse with high spirits, the dogs, and our kayaks in tow. We've spent loads of time in Byron before, but had never been to Ocean Shores (just 15min north) and were excited to explore new territory.

Our jaws hit the floor when we came through the front door - greeted by stunning views of the backyard and lake from every window. What a truly magical spot. We ran straight outside and sat under the poinciana tree, enjoying the swing and views across the sparkling water. It wasn't long before we couldn't resist throwing ourselves into the lake, floating around on the blow-up donuts from the garage.

As the sun started to set, we sat by the fire pit with a glass of bubbles and nibble board, checking out the map to see which part of the river the lake connected to. We were excited to discover that we could launch from the back yard and kayak to neighbouring beaches and towns - there was so much to explore!

The next morning, we were up before the sun came up to tick off a bucketlist adventure of ours - hot air ballooning! The weather was ridiculously perfect for it, and it was such a serene experience, with the most incredible views across the Byron hinterland and to the lighthouse.

The adventures continued after ballooning. We kayaked with the dogs to New Brighton and back. It was about an hour paddling each way with a lunch spot at the halfway point. We were completely tuckered after that and spent the evening playing backgammon and soaking in the bathtub to relax our sore muscles.

Our final activity the next day was possibly the most exciting - horse riding on the beach! We were not disappointed. The horses were so beautiful, and we got ro ride them into the waves. Memories we will never forget! We went home high on Yellowstone vibes and vowing to have land with horses one day.

There was so much to explore right at our doorstep, we could have stayed at the Riverhouse for weeks. The beach closest to the house is stunning and dog friendly. The town of Brunswick Heads, just a few minutes drive, is one of the cutest we have seen, with endless shops, cafes, eateries, and spots to swim.

We will be back to the Lakehouse for more adventures ASAP!
