Down by the Riverlea
Adventure in Seymour, Yarra Valley, VIC, AU
Eastern Grey Roos bounded across the plain before us as hundreds of butterflies flit about the long golden grass in the evening sun. Gazing across to the river, just a mighty stone's throw from the edge of the pool, we stood in awe of the country beauty that greeted us on arrival to 'Riverlea'. A group of mates such as ours would struggle to visit this place without echoing a classic "ahhh the serenity!" quote or two. The kookaburras laughed in unison with us, yet it was true - our 10 acre stay on the banks of the Goulburn River was effortlessly serene!
A summer heat wave followed our welcome that weekend and so we took the opportunity to indulge in the property's stunning pool as much as we could. We swam before breakfast, lunch, dinner, and even watched each night's sunset from the water. I was reminded just how much diving into a refreshing crystal clear pool sets my soul free, and the stillness one can find in simply floating. We sky-gazed from a lilo as the day brought skies as blue as blue can be, watching aeroplanes, and later stars when an impressive Milky Way came into view as night fell.
Able to sleep ten of your favourites, 'The Pavilion' is a dreamy stay up hill from Riverlea's main house. With its wide verandahs and windows abounding, luxurious double bathroomsm and cosy beds, one would hardly believe this homely space was once a shed! On what proved to be some of the hottest of summer days we were kept cool inside by multiple air-cons, and relished in the chance to enjoy alfresco eating from the BBQ outside, raising our glasses over an outdoor table that looks out to the Strathbogie Ranges.
As the days cooled we wandered this beautiful rural property, admiring towering old gums and finding a spot by the river to enjoy the birdlife and the breeze, while our young pup chased dragonflies to her hearts content - being able to have our fur baby beside us on our adventures is always a win in my eyes!...
