Where Mother Nature Calls
Adventure in Wheatsheaf, Macedon Ranges, VIC, AU
An afternoon with my friend Robbie before check-in was just the kind of magic this solo adventurer needed. We indulged in everything we craved from the menu at the Wombat Garden Cafe, including tacos, pastries, coffee, and wine. After all, we were celebrating life! We wandered through the gardens, savoring sourdough and inhaling the fragrant flowers before parting ways.
As I arrived at my home for the next few days, I struggled to contain my excitement for this secluded bush retreat. I couldn't help but squeal with delight as I stepped inside.
This new chapter of relaxation promised all the comforts of life: cozy blankets, books, heating, homemade jams, and a cupboard brimming with teas. Hello, bush retreat! I snuggled in for the night with a book in hand.
The next day, I ventured to Lake Jubilee, where I discovered spring water that tasted surprisingly like dam water. Curiosity got the best of me, so I took a sip! I continued along the lake trail, snapping photos and chasing the waterfall beneath the wooden bridge.
As I returned to my car, I encountered the most beautiful creatures I had ever seen—peacocks! I couldn’t resist going down to make friends and feed them some seeds that others had bought from the nearby caravan park. I was captivated by their stunning beauty.
Back at my cozy retreat, I found a picnic basket waiting for me. I settled nearby and sat quietly as wallabies hopped by. The hosts had generously left homemade jams, and the marmalade was absolutely delightful! I took deep breaths, soaking in the tranquility of nature. Still and calm, my heart felt content. When a light shower passed through the bushland, I took it as a sign to refresh myself too. The rest of the afternoon was spent reading my chosen book and sipping orange-spiced chai tea from the kitchen.
That night, I lit an outdoor fire and awaited the stars, feeling profoundly at peace. I watched the flames dance in the night and the stars twinkle brilliantly. Mother Nature truly works wonders for the soul, and this place was perfect for rekindling that connection.

Things We Did
- Lake
- Experience
- Forest
- Café
There's a caravan park part of Jubilee Lake, although there's a day visitors parking spot and an easy walking track around the lake. I did a loop and found a mineral springs area, lots of wildlife and an awesome waterfall that I took upon myself to make my way down the the bottom of. You can fish in the lake and there's a playground and also canoe hire found at the kiosk. Great day hang spot! Keep your eyes open for a peacock or 5!
At the lake, you can purchase a bag of peacock feed from the kiosk for $2 a bag. I was luckily enough to have some shared with me! The pretty boy peacocks can be found down by the lake and roaming the land. Sit still and they can be hand fed. There's other birdlife here too that don't mind a snack too! I found the pretty boys quite curious, coming right up to my camera and enjoying a photo bomb moment.
You are literally surrounded by foresty bushland. And there's a picnic basket and blanket in the abode with all things nice. Find yourself a spot among the trees and wild flowers. Was soul filling to be so still surrounded by Mother Nature.
Submerged in the gardens is this delightFULL cafe. I met my friend Robbie who was visiting the area for an afternoon share sesh full of everything we wanted off the menu! Afterall it all looked incredible, especially the baked goods! Walked away with a loaf each of sourdough as we walked though the gardens chatting our faces off and sniffing flowers.
