Warmth and Wilderness in Healesville
Adventure in Healesville, Yarra Valley, VIC, AU
Perched high among the trees in the Yarra Valley, the Onyx Retreat sits elevated above the forest—a steady climb from the main road, winding through damp terrain and into the clouds.
From the moment we arrived, the lodge radiated a welcoming warmth that set the tone for our stay during some chilly days. Each morning began with the cheerful call of kookaburras, perfectly setting the mood for slow, peaceful mornings.
Spacious yet cozy, the retreat blends an open layout with ski lodge charm. Inside, the decor and artwork add personality and warmth, making it a joy to simply be in the space.
Enjoying time at Onyx feels completely effortless. Whether you’re gathered around the fireplace for a games or movie night, cooking up a hearty meal for a family dinner, or playing a few rounds of billiards, there’s plenty to do indoors—and that’s just the start.
Step outside, and you’ll find even more ways to relax and unwind. The hot tub is a highlight, especially on cold nights, and pairs perfectly with an evening barbecue. After a day of adventure, the sauna was a luxurious way to recharge.
Our time in Healesville was just as rewarding. We explored the charming town, popping into cafes, lolly shops, and indulging in a gin tasting session at Four Pillars Distillery. Just a few minutes away, we discovered Badger Weir—a lush picnic area with a flowing creek and tranquil walking trails, full of greenery and curious mushrooms.
The Onyx Retreat is the kind of place that reconnects you with nature and leaves you feeling refreshed by the forest air. We had an incredible time here and loved every moment exploring the beauty of Healesville.

The Cherry Tree cafe is a great little dog friendly spot along the main strip of Healesville. We loved their BLT and Mr Pickles loved their puppachino!
For everything sweet, head to Healesville Candy Emporium they have it all!
Badger Weir is a great little spot to explore and go for a light walk. Fresh air, green trees, running creeks and fascinating mushrooms.
