Tiny escape (with a big view!)
Adventure in Fosterton, Hunter Valley, NSW, AU
Mum and I set off with my border collie, Chloe, excited for a few days of fresh air and countryside charm. We stopped in at Dungog to grab dinner from a local butcher and stumbled across a self-guided walking tour of the town’s historic buildings. Wandering down the main street, we discovered fascinating stories about the area’s past.
Less than ten minutes later, we arrived at Tiny Three Ten—and instantly fell in love. With big bi-fold doors and a spacious deck overlooking rolling hills glowing in the afternoon light, we settled in by the firepit while Chloe happily explored the garden.
I woke to a colourful sunrise and the distant sound of cows, embracing the slow pace of the morning with some farm-fresh eggs (so much better than Coles!). While Mum read her book, I took a long, blissful bath, soaking in the views and watching steam rise gently from the water.
Later, we explored the Dungog Common, a gorgeous reserve for walking, horse riding, and mountain biking. Chloe ran excited laps around us as we followed the sculpture trail to picnic tables with sweeping views.
Lunch at Billy T Café in Stroud was a gluten-free dream—those nachos were next level, and the scones and apple crumble? Heaven.
Back at the cabin, we fired up the coals to cook jacket potatoes, followed by marshmallows for dessert—because is there any better way to end the day?
This was the perfect escape from the city, leaving us refreshed, revitalised, and already planning our return.

We loved the self-tour with plaques explaining the history of various old buildings. There’s also an amazing butcher with steak direct from the farm!
Traditionally home to the Gringai people, this is 650 acres of bushland with over 22km of tracks for walking trails (dogs welcome!), mountain bike riding and horse riding, or picnics in the sun!
This cafe has the most amazing food, especially if you’re after something gluten free! It’s in the centre of a beautiful historic town with lots of friendly locals.
