Forest Baths & Fireside Nights at the Treehouse

Winding our way up to Carawirry Forest Escape felt like the beginning of an adventure, with the steep drive leading us to the secluded treehouse cabin. Inside, we were greeted by dark timber beams, cosy vibes, and the glow of the indoor fire pit already warming the space and making it feel instantly inviting.

We didn’t waste any time before heading straight to the bath house, two deep soak tubs perched above the forest and surrounded by towering trees. After dropping in local bath bombs and salts, we let the tubs fill before sinking in. We chatted away in the warm water, sipping wine while the boys got the outdoor fire going. Once we were fully relaxed, we dressed in the soft robes provided and joined them by the fire pit, soaking up the peace and quiet of the forest, before cooking up a storm on the BBQ for dinner.
With full bellies, we headed for an early night, snuggled into the softest beds while the last flickers of the indoor fire kept the cabin toasty warm.

The next morning we woke gently to the sound of rain falling through the trees. It was the perfect excuse for a slow start, reading by the fire and enjoying a leisurely breakfast. Afterwards, we set out on the waterfall trail that begins right in the backyard.

After so much recent rain, the track was muddy and alive with leeches (we’d already had a few “visitors” this trip, and this walk was no exception, they love the wet weather!). The river was high and muddy from the rain, not the time or place for a swim, though the guidebook pointed out plenty of swimming spots along the way. We could easily imagine how clear and inviting they must be in summer. The waterfall was a stunning sight, rushing powerfully through the forest. We lingered there for a while before wandering back to the cabin for a relaxed lunch of BBQ leftovers and salad on the deck.

In the afternoon we poured over the hand-drawn maps kindly provided by Heather, plotting our next adventure. The usual 4WD track to other walking trails and a platypus-spotting place had unfortunately been washed away over the winter, so instead we attempted a big loop walk. Our plans were cut short at the first river crossing, where the water was too swollen to pass, but we happily rerouted to explore the fishing dams scattered across the property.

A big day of walking made the perfect excuse for another long bath, this time swapping wine for cups of T2 tea. Luckily the rain held off, so we spent the evening around the outdoor fire pit, roasting marshmallows, sharing stories, and making plans for future adventures.

On our final morning, it was hard to drag ourselves from the snug beds. We lingered over coffee and breakfast on the upstairs deck, saying our goodbyes to the forest before packing up. With both cars loaded, we reluctantly headed off, stopping in Stroud for one last coffee and a wander before the big drive home.
