A Weekend in Paradise

When we arrived at our accommodation and stepped onto the balcony, the view felt like stepping into a work of art.

We spent our first afternoon exploring the meticulously curated gardens on the property, finding plenty to enjoy. Whether it was soaking in the natural beauty, playing on the putting green, or escaping the sun beneath the shade of the trees, it was the perfect way to ease into a relaxing weekend.

Later, we headed out to Waitekohe Park, where we discovered a stunning local swimming hole and took a refreshing swim.

As evening drew near, we couldn't wait to slip into the bubbling spa pool and watch as the sky from Katikati to Mount Maunganui softened into hues of pink and gold at sunset. It was a moment of pure calm, and the view truly couldn’t be beaten.

The next morning, we rose early to watch the sunrise from the balcony before heading into Katikati to browse the local produce and handmade goods at the weekly market. We then travelled north to explore the trails and tunnels of the Karangahake Gorge, putting the perfect finishing touch on our weekend away.

We were in no rush to leave and made the most of every last minute. The views, the tranquillity, and the sense of relaxation made this stay unforgettable, we can’t wait to return!

The Waitekohe recreational park in centered around the scenic Waitekohe stream and there are several natural swimming holes along it. While walking along a trail from the Thompsons track carpark, we stumbled on the perfect spot for an afternoon swim.

This short walk in the Karangahake Gorge is a must do if you're passing through the area. This easy 1.5hour walk follows an old tramway line, crosses swing bridges over the rives and passes through historic mine tunnels where openings carved into the rock frame dramatic views down into the gorge. Make sure you bring a torch for the tunnels.

A stunning multi-tiered waterfall tucked just off SH2 in the Karangahake Gorge. The falls are just a 2 minute walk from the carpark and offer a great spot for a summer swim.

This two hour loop walk follows an old railway line before entering an impressive 1.1km hand dug former rail tunnel. The tunnel has lighting but I'd recommend bringing a torch anyway as it's not super bright.
