Lazy Weekend

After grabbing a quick bite, some great coffee in Trentham and checking the waterfalls nearby, we headed towards Mistwood, our accommodation, for a late afternoon check-in.

Upon arriving, we knew right away that Mistwood was going to be the perfect spot for a lazy weekend with our friends. This property is only an easy drive away from Melbourne but definitely feels like it’s miles away from the city.

This stunning, spacious property is located in the heart of Mt Macedon and is a quick drive away from a lot of sightseeing spots, walking tracks, cute cafes and delicious food.

The two decks on the back of the house open on 2 acres of dense forest. You'll have plenty of opportunities to spot birds, wallabies, and other wildlife that visits the property each day.

Our friends joined us for drinks and snacks on the veranda and some couch time by the fire.

We loved the contrast between how modern the interior of the house is compared to the secluded and raw feel of the outside of the property. This is a magical little spot where you’ll definitely want to come back again.

In the morning, we were ready to check out a town nearby called Kyneton, where we found some delicious breakfast at the dog friendly cafe ‘Little Swallow’

On our way to Mistwood, our accommodation, we came across the Sanatorium lake sign. I had been here before but wanted to check it out again. This lake is so peaceful and quiet and it’s great for a lovely walk, horse-riding or a pic-nic. Sanatorium lake, just like all the places we visited around the Mt Macedon area, is a pet-friendly (on lead) option for people exploring with their dogs.
After a stroll around the lake, we finally checked in into our accommodation, Mistwood, just down the road from Sanatorium lake.

Stretch your legs and walk up Piper Street, famous for its vintage stores and the Stockroom, a contemporary art gallery that showcases some upcoming Australian artists and designers.
This cool modern art gallery/shop housed in a 1850s Butter Factory was a very nice surprise as something unexpected to come by in such a small town like this one.

Trentham Falls, located in the Wombat State Forest, are just a 5 mins drive away from town and are the highest single-drop waterfalls in Victoria. There are different viewing points that can quickly be reached from the car park but this spot gets a little busy on a nice day so try to get here early.

We drove North towards the Black Hill Reserve, 260 acres of rare bushland and incredible rock formations. From the car park, there are three easy tracks that you can follow but we chose the apparently more scenic one Ridge Track. You might come across some steep sections when heading to the top but it is a very easy track and can be completed in about one hour and 30 mins. Stop to spot birds, wallabies, wombats, and some interesting rock formations. Explore a bit off track to find some beautiful views of the area.
