A Little Wanderlust in Spring
Adventure in Gruyere, Yarra Valley, VIC, AU
I arrived at dusk at this little tiny house in Gruyere, VIC, just as the sunshine was dancing through the trees and catching the edges of my tiny home for the night. Warm lights glowed from inside, the mountains stretched out beyond the front deck and a little bird feeder was already attracting the pretty locals. King parrots and rainbow lorikeets swooped in for their turn, completely unbothered by my arrival. The open plan space was cosy and inviting, with a big comfy bed and even a composting toilet adding to the simple, off grid feel. I sat outside watching the sunset before settling in for the evening, feeling safe, comfy and completely content in my own little bubble.
The next morning I woke with the sun to find mist sitting in the valley and the mountain tops peeking through. Coffee, then a wander. I headed into Yarra Valley National Park, following the river and exploring the picnic area before making my way back to my tiny home for the afternoon.
Then it was time to put my farmer girl skills to work. Wood chopped. Fire built. Marshmallows roasted. Because this tiny was screaming light me up and call me home.
As the stars came out, I made myself a cosy little nest of blankets beside the campfire and fired up the outdoor projector for a movie beneath the night sky. How to Train Your Dragon, a crackling fire, stars above and absolutely nowhere I needed to be. It was still, simple and downright lovely.
The following morning, I slept in because that bed was far too delightful to leave. Kinda how I feel about my Colombian lover. Froffy coffee in bed, my current read and the birds taking turns at the feeder outside. Eventually, it was time to pack up and head home.
I left feeling lighter than when I arrived. Not because anything huge had happened, but because nothing needed to. Sometimes we don’t need to escape completely. We just need a little space between ourselves and the noise. A slow morning, a walk amongst the trees, a fire under the stars with that sweet reminder that doing absolutely nothing can sometimes be exactly what we need.
When was the last time you escaped and did sweet nothings?
