Home Away from Home
Adventure in Daylesford, Macedon Ranges, VIC, AU
Follow the yellow brick dirt road to this artist retreat haven. Little treasures for the eyes sprinkled in between the landscaping were what first greeted us after we parked in the lot. A gnomes head atop a cactus, a ceramic hand poking out from the rocks, a regal unicorns head fashioned from old scrap metal are just a few of the things to feast your eyes on.
The home itself was well thought out and cozy. The space had everything we needed to feel comfortable and make the place ours for the two nights of our stay. We stayed in and cooked, enjoying our meal by the fire. We indulged in the piping hot tub and concluded our night by watching Titanic on DVD (one of two movies that came with the place). At the end of the road is a market where you'll have your pic of hundreds of dvds if "Titanic" or "Million Dollar Baby" isn't your vibe.
We slept like babies comfortably in the loft, well-toasted from the leftover heat from the fireplace below. This was precisely the retreat we were looking for during our stay in Daylesford....

Things We Did
- Walk
- Experience
An easy drive leads you to a parking lot with ample spaces to park (even on a weekend). It's a short walk down some stairs to the waterfall lookout. There are two gates blocking the trail merely as a suggestion. The easy trek down to the waterfall can be made in sandals - once down at the bottom of the falls you can scale some rocks to wind up behind the falls. You'll want to bring a camera!...
A leisurely and enjoyable loop trail takes you around the lake. Parking is easy to keep your stresses low. For the adventurous types you can rent yourself a little paddle boat and join the ducks at the center of the lake. For photographers, bring your camera as there are lots of little hidden portrait opportunities to be had just off the beaten path....
