Eco Escape at Kestrel Nest
Adventure in Mount Adrah, Country NSW, NSW, AU
Four hours south-west of Sydney is this incredible eco-hut, though 'hut' really undersells the luxurious and modern design of Kestrel Nest. The house is situated atop a hill with stunning panoramic views of the surrounding countryside - rolling green hills, a running river and forest trees teeming with wildlife.
The property owners are passionate environmentalists dedicated to the preservation of the pristine setting, and the hut's carefully considered design is a near 0 impact celebration of its location, constructed with materials from fallen trees, recycled materials from the previous structure and is entirely solar-powered.
Spend your days exploring the vast property on foot, then settle in and watch the green fields turn to gold from any spot on the wraparound deck, with a glass of wine and a book.
Once the sun has set, get cosy by the fire pit for some amazing stargazing or head inside, light the fire and take advantage of the fully functional kitchen.

Things We Did
- Hike
- Town
- Starry sky
Be sure to bring your walking shoes and explore the pristine surroundings. The hut is on the edge of a conservation area protecting one of Australia's rarest habitats: Box Gum Grassy Woodland. In here you can discover over 100 different species of birds, echidnas, wombats, wildflowers and other natural delights.
Pick up any supplies you might need on the way in Goulburn or if you just need a quick half-hour break, head up to the Rocky Hill War Memorial and Museum. Here you can experience a rich heritage and history, while the top of the memorial boasts spectacular 360-degree views of Goulburn.
While at Kestrel Nest we experienced some of the best stargazing conditions we'd ever seen. Set up a chair on the deck and stare in awe.
