Paterson's Cottage Hideaway
Adventure in Paterson, Hunter Valley, NSW, AU
Valley View Cottage is the perfect getaway. As soon as we started driving the small roads leading up to the property, we felt disconnected to the city world, which was exactly what we needed this weekend. When arriving at the cottage, we instantly felt complete awe. There was nothing but quiet, calm surroundings.
The cottage is stocked with all the necessities. A coffee machine, aircon, lots of board games, a spacious living room, eggs from the hens living on the farm, excellent cooking facilities, a super comfy bed. What more could you ask for?
The porch is just an amazing area on its own. We spent most of our time here reading, talking, drinking coffee, playing cards. We got visited by all sorts of farm animals and also a few roos. At night we would sit here and watch the sun as it went down behind the treetops leaving us in complete darkness.
In the morning we ventured up to Upper Allyn to do a hike. Such a beautiful national park with plenty of walks. On our way home, we stopped in Dungog, which is located only 20 minutes from the cottage. Here we visited Tinshed Brewery, ideal if you’re looking for a cold locally made beer on a hot day. Their burgers are also amazing!
Pretty much, Valley View Cottage is a great place to relax and disconnect, but if you're also up for hikes, vineyards, breweries and a bit of history, you will have that covered too!

Things We Did
- Hike
- Town
- Brewery
Upper Allyn is right in the beginning of Barrington Tops National Park and only 50 minutes drive from the cottage. We drove here one morning and did the Blue Gum Loop Trail which is lovely - dense forest and beautiful river crossings along the way!

A really interesting museum located in Paterson. It's definitely worth a visit if you would like to know more about Patersons historical society.
The museum is only open on Sundays, and from here you can also do the self-guided Paterson Town Walk which leads you around the historic town of Paterson, providing information about its heritage buildings and features.

The Tinshed Brewery is located in Dungog and it's definitely worth a visit. The beers are amazing, the burgers are deeeeelicious and the staff is super friendly!
