Historic Grampians Charm

It's not every weekend to get to stay in an old Tobacco Kiln. Dripping in history this unique stay had the country charm and relaxation we were looking for. Originally built as a garage for the local area's first T-model Ford, then later converted into a tobacco kiln. Around 100 years old now. These days the kiln houses an upstairs loft bedroom and everything else you could need for a hassle-free weekend.

Cosy and comfortable inside but just as nice outside amongst the surrounding area of the 1200 acre sheep farm. With views to the Grampians just 5 minutes out of Dunkeld. Our host Karen was warm and welcoming as she told us about the local area and history of the building.

We enjoyed the outside barbecue and warm summer evening on our first night and awaited the clear country skies full of stars.
The next morning it was bacon and eggs for breakfast and off for a hike in the southern Grampians. We relaxed in the ambience of the charming setting for the afternoon. The next day we visited Wannon Falls and stopped for brunch and coffees at Koopmans cafe. Leaving had us feeling like we spent a weekend in another time, quiet, simple and carefree.

One of the easier hikes in the area but still with impressive views of Mt Abrupt and across Dunkeld. At around 2.5km return and some gentle inclines, this was enough to get the heart pumping whilst carrying the little man on our backs. We could never get lost with a 2-year-old yelling "This way Dad" in your ear.

Wannon Falls is a pretty country drive 25 minutes from our stay. A 30-metre drop into a beautiful large lagoon. The sheer expanse of these falls is quite amazing.

Koopmans Cafe in Dunkeld is the perfect place for a coffee refuel and breakfast. This cool little space also houses an art gallery of local paintings, sculptures and photos. Situated 5 mins from our stay and in the main street of Dunkeld, it's hard to miss the large former Dunkeld Motors building.
